March 22, 20188 yr IMO, the issue at play is not a result of anything that will be cured by any one single thing. I suspect there are numerous elements that all contribute to the poor texture loading. March 22, 20188 yr I can see KJFK, using these settings.. March 22, 20188 yr Hi Bert, I tried your settings and unfortunately is worse than mine, see my settings please https://www.dropbox.com/s/k6pp44uge6mmb1i/A.PNG?dl=0 My position over TEB 8,000 FT, HDG 136 a/c paused will generate this picture https://www.dropbox.com/s/wnj321f77ag8mlu/WITH_MINE.PNG?dl=0 And this is with your recommended settings https://www.dropbox.com/s/22hokydp0v8p2gk/WITH_BERT.PNG?dl=0 Imho something is missing, do you have other settings, can you post your picture please? Also what settings do you use on NVIDIA Control Panel, I can't put my finger on it. Regards Alex 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
March 23, 20188 yr 8000 feet at TEB, I cannot see KJFK, but flying towards it, it appears well before crossing the Hudson, about 12 NM out.. Do you have: high resolution terrain: on set? Bert
March 23, 20188 yr yes I do. I'm wondering if has something to do with NVidia control panel or is just the coding in P3D where higher you go more blurries you get? 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
March 23, 20188 yr P3D has a limited autogen/detail view distance, it is the coding. If you want to go extreme, you can go one step beyond high resolution terrain: on (TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9) by editing the prepar3d.cfg file and setting TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 but that comes with a performance penalty. Bert
March 23, 20188 yr Ok, now this makes sense. Didn't know this issue, that explains why. Too bad, we should be able to have at least 18 to 20 NM autogen/detail view distance. I do hope that they will fix this issue, it's very unrealistic. When I compare to XP11 they have it somewhere close to that distance and transition past that point is very smooth and you barely notice. I have P3D since 2013 and invested lots of money in this hobby. Also I use only PMDG 744 (that's what I fly in the real world), an outstanding program. I do hope that P3D will get their act together, lately last few updates had some fixes but also some induced problems that we didn't have before. Quality check very relaxed lately. Thank you Bert, now I understand and my suspicions might be correct about their coding. One last clarification please, where do I enter this TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9 x 10? 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
March 23, 20188 yr HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1 TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 they go together as a pair in the Prepar3D.cfg file. Search for the first one, and add a line. Be aware of the performance impact this may have! From the LM P3D forum: Quote: Post by Beau Hollis » Tue, 19 Dec 2017, 19:28 Thanks for bringing this to our attention....please limit your combination of these options to these three combinations: For default 256: HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=0 TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8 (or not set) For 512: HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1 TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9 (or not set) For 1024: HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1 TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 Edited March 23, 20188 yr by Bert Pieke Bert

Be aware of the performance impact this may have! Plus the impact on loading time. I use TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 on a regular base and enjoy it, but I can have a cup of coffee while the sim loads. Besides, you need a GPU with at least 10 GB VRAM, but I see the OP does have it.
