New Definition for Golfers

Featured Replies

When golfing and it begins to rain on the golf course, you can quit and go to the Pro Shop and ask for a "rain check" and play some other day.  Now, in Hawaii, you can get a volcano ash or volcano lava check in the event a volcano erupts while you are playing -

Well, hopefully, since the definition has not been created yet, these guys got a refund!  Some say golfers take the game too seriously.  Me thinks they are right!

Would that apply to me as I am a flogger, not a golfer:rolleyes:  Even just playing the back nine, I tend to play the whole course, anyway!  When asked what my handicap is I usually reply "My golf game and clubs".

Dedication to your game sometimes dulls your common sense.

I was fly fishing on the South Platte River up in Middle Park in Colorado one afternoon when a thunderstorm rolled in.  I broke down my rod and sati it our in my car.  It was over in less than an hour.  But I observed several fishermen wading knee deep in water waving their rods arund in the air while lightning was striking not that far away.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Having lived in Denver 40 years from College on, I fly fished the front range of CO plus the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, East River, Taylor River, White River, and a numerous others, I found that between about 1100 and 1600, during the heat of the day, it wasn't very productive, for me anyway. Never did well on the South Platte, but only fished it a couple times. Too much pressure there. I think we've discussed this before. Couldn't help but chime in though. I miss it. Had to give it up due eyesight and balance. 80 now. Here in PHX you fly fish with a fly swatter!

If you are playing golf anywhere near an active volcano, I would suggest that you need a brain check

I guess they would regard the crater as a very large bunker!

Like to be  a member at your  course, only  way  we  get  a  rain check is  only  if  they  call  off the tournament due  to  the  greens being  unplayeable

Here in the USA, if there is a tournament, course conditions would never stop playing as everyone has the same conditions.  This includes rain, snow, hail, alligators, Python, Cobras, and Rattlesnakes as well as bad greens.  Most people do not play in tournaments in the USA but mostly play with foursomes or less.  It is individual play and they don't have to follow the rules of tournament officials.  They can quit for any reason but most likely won't get their money back unless they get a rain check or something like that.  The course I play at regularly recently gave a customer his money back when he complained he did not like the greens.  So, for golfers playing as individuals and not in tournaments, they can also play near active volcanoes as long as the course stays open.

Finally got out for the first time this season only to discover that the greens had all been freshly aerated a couple of days ago. Arghh! Would never quit for that reason though - living in the northeast, the courses are only open locally from April through November - I’ll take what I can get!

But the volcano golfers in Hawaii take dedication to he game to a whole new level. I think I’d have to take a pass on playing under those conditions....
