PMDG 747-8 EFB Charts

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I, well, likely a lot of you including me, are getting pretty excited for the new queen! However I did have one question regarding the charts in the EFB. So, to get the charts in the EFB, do I have to purchase navigraph to use the charts in the 747-8? Are charts included but just maybe aren't too up to date? And if I do have to purchase navigraph, anyone know how I would link the charts to the 747?

Thanks for the help!

PMDG aircraft release with a certain AIRAC. Whether or not that AIRAC will also come with charts for the EFB I do not know. Even if it does, to get the latest AIRAC for the FMC and charts for the EFB, yes you will need a Navigraph subscription. Based on previously released information and Chewwy’s live stream, all you have to do is log into your Navigraph account in the EFB itself and you’ll have access to the charts. No extra work required there. If I’m wrong, my apologies and please correct me.

Personally, I believe a Navigraph subscription is a must for any flight sim enthusiast so long as it is in their budget. Back when Navigraph offered it’s 30-day FMS data, I would purchase that once a year. Then, when they took that away and I was forced to buy the monthly FMS data and charts subscription, I just couldn’t get myself to cancel my subscription and purchase once a year like I had been doing. Those Jepperson charts are just too good to give up.

Anyways, hope this helped.

Ok. Just what I thought. I'm hoping some info will come out of whether it will come with just out of date charts or you just have to buy the whole thing. I'm using aerosoft navdatapro. However I got my subscription to it in february, so I'm gonna add navigraph navdata and charts onto the xmas list or hopefully have enough to use xmas money 😄 Anyhow, I can live 4 months without charts in the EFB. I won't die 😂

Thanks again and enjoy the new queen when it comes!

Cheers!

To get charts at all, you need a subscription.

To get the ground maps on the ND is free (it builds the picture based on sim data).

Yeah. I know it builds the ground charts for the display. I was at expo during the announcement. I am now curious if it comes with charts. Charts from the airac it comes with.

Fair enough. No, you need to log into your Navigraph account on the EFB to get any charts on there. The AIRAC that comes with the aircraft will be the FMC navdata only.

A Navigraph subscription is better than a Netflix subscription....

In other words, its a MUST for any flight sim enthusiast that wishes to simulate the latest charts and AIRAC cycles.

If I remember correctly, Robert wrote that they would release it with an implementation of the Navigraph subscribtion but would then also go for an Aerosoft subscribtion a little later. And my personal expectation is, that this will become avaible at least when GFO will be released as Aerosoft are already advertising their "Tier1/2/whatever" support for GFO in their A3** series. It seems to me that there's some sort of teamwork and making their Navdatapro available inside the 747 of a top developer might have a high priority on their side.

There are two subscription levels at Navigraph. I think you will probably need the “full” Navigraph subscription that gives access to both AIRACS and charts, and costs more than the basic subscription (which gives access to FMS AIRAC updates only).

I’m not 100 certain about this though. Perhaps PMDG has struck a deal with Navigraph allowing charts access in the -8 EFB for even those who only subscribe to FMS updates.

I’ve been a Navigraph charts subscriber for 2 years - accessing them with their iPad app, and find it invaluable when flying to airports outside of the US.

Yeah. I have a navdatapro subscription. Just not for charts. I use online charts instead of software. However I want to get the online charts and airacs from navigraph.

To clear a few things up:

  1. A Navigraph sub is recommended, as Navigraph's manager manages all of the charts for you without the hassle of tracking them all down on your own.
  2. If you don't feel like springing for the sub at Navigraph, the EFB does have a manual that explains how to use the document reader function for your flights. You do sacrifice the chart handling however (chart clips, chart management, filters, and so on).
  3. Linking your account is as simple as loading the 748. The first time you run it, it'll pop up a window (a Navigraph window) asking you to log in. Done.

Awesome! Thanks so much Kyle. Might be a stupid question but I’m guessing there’s some sort of way of logging in after the first time you open the 748?

Each new session, when you click on the terminal charts button in the EFB, a Navigraph dialog box will open to verify that you are approving this use and a click of OK is all you need to do.  Only the first time one must provide user/password.
