I really like it. Interesting RNAV approach and a good base for Idaho bush strips.

I had some weird installation issues, but once I got that sorted out, I'm a happy camper.  The Turbulent guys really do a great job!

For those who don't know, KSUN features a sloped runway.  In practical terms, this means no AI, but with its position in a tight valley AI wouldn't work well anyway so I see that as a fair tradeoff.  It also means that traditional numbered parking spaces aren't available.  There are basically three starting spots - one by the FBO, one by the small terminal and one in a large open hangar - and, of course, at either end of the runway.  Again, this doesn't bother me at all, but may some.

All in all, a very nice field in an excellent location.

From the initial installment (with ORBX Central) of KSUN on the runway alsways is positioned in a deep canyon and the buildings are high on a plateau. Even using the airport elevation tool from ORBX I was not able to solve that issue. I tried to control with the lorby addon manager and position KSUN at other layers, no success sofar. Many other ORBX airports that I have installed are OK. So for the moment I am lost with KSUN..

Who can give me some recommandations?

Thanks,

Jan

Did you try disabling the airport elevation correction in the Vector Configuration tool? I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but I’ve fixed a couple airports that way.

Sounds like maybe some conflicting mesh (e.g. in a layer above the scenery), or perhaps the mesh resolution and/or tesselation are set incorrectly.  Airports placed on irregular terrain depend on having the scenery elements placed atop the mesh it was designed with, which is generally included with the scenery.  Another possibility is a conflicting airport file (e.g. ADE/AFCAD) that contains a flatten that interferes with rendering of the irregular mesh terrain the airport is built on.

Is there a parking spot big enough on the ramp to fit an A319 or B737-600/700?  Also, it sounds like GSX would have issues with this one, since the parking spots are not defined in the airport file--has anyone tried to make GSX work there?

Regards

What I observed is that KSUN is positioned at the top of the scenery list and in addition there is an entry in P3D/scenery/world/scenery, I have never seen this before. KSUN is not positioned between all the other ORBX airports in the FTX_AA_K... layers.

Has anybody tried running this without the ORBX region installed? If so, how is it?

I was hoping to hear from somebody that actually installed it like this to see if it was worth buying or not (like KMRY is messed up without Norcal but KPSP works fine w/o Socal).

Thanks for the post however..

KPSP is a bit of an anomaly as it was originally released prior to the existence of the SoCal region, so it doesn't automatically expect SoCal to be there.

I expect they took text from the KIDA description and modified it for KSUN but neglected to sub in KSUN in that section.  In other words, basically a typo.

Scott

Can anyone comment if this works without having the region installed?

I have FTX global plus LC.

Thanks!

Hi,

I find GSX not working correctly in ORBX KSUN - follow me directs me to the hangar area when selecting the airlines gates area. It also does not follow the taxiways but takes me through the gravel.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Shom

The airport is not generally set up for AI traffic which could be the cause of those issues.
