This is a great preview with new info and great new pics. Bring on FSX - I just can't wait! :-jumpy

This hobby of ours just keeps getting better and better and better!!What

A really good read, well worth a look.Sounds like the dev team has a way to go yet, so don't wish the day to come too soon. I hope it's later rather than sooner.Check out the panels. I've got to get one of those TrackIRs. Looks like I'll be flying VC from now on.Mike.

After reading the coverage both here and on simflight, FSX really looks like a solid improvement over stock FS9. However, I still think that most hard core simmers won't be blown over by the improvements in FSX at first, because the first thing you see of course is the graphics. All the screenshots I've seen suggest that if you have UT, GEPro, FSG mesh, and ASV, you basically have FSX right now. Perhaps FSX will run better out of the box tho, and that right there is more than enough reason to look forward to it IMO.As for the new features, I'm willing to bet that people will be passing around new missions here faster than you can deal a deck of cards in a poker hand six months after FSX is released. Microsoft are basically going the same route as the developers behind Civilization IV - by creating an XML driven mission system. I can only imagine what current add-ons like FSPassengers, coupled with all of these virtual airline clubs that form, will be like in FSX. Imagine starting a virtual career as a dispatch officer in FSX and working your way up to Captain over a number of simulated years. The possibilities with the mission system really do sound intriguing to me.

I can't beleive I didn't spot those shadows! not too sure about the shadow cast by the buildings though, looks too abrupt/clean-cut for my liking, but its nice feature to see i guess :D

we have the following that you still can't add to FS9:Hi res ground texture!Hi density autogen to, for example, create forrests!increased numbers of regions for Autogen.None repeating landscape at high altitutes!Birds, fish and animals.Moving Ocean VesselsReflective paint and surfaces!Bump mapping to create effects such as rivets on airplanes.Wet surfaces with rain droplets visible on the surfaceReflection of objects in water!Moving trafficAirframe casts shawdows on to the rest of the airplane Sun Bloomsimulation of Thermals for soaringWing Flexingroads that hug the terrain and are reasonably flattened!Increase hight simulation for high altitude flights.5 seasons instead of 4.Panel Transparency!Use of 5.1 soundMulti threaded for better use of dual core processors!Cloud shawdows? (am not sure if it made it or not)Different accents in ATC!ability to fly over poles!I am sure there are more..but can't think of them all right now! But for me the high resolution terrain textures alone will be enough to upgrade!

I don't want to sound too negative (I sometimes am I admit), but I've heard nothing about some of the fundamental problems with the FS engine that have not been addressed over all these years. Some of these things are:Turboprop modelingModeling of multiple fuel tanks (properly, that is).better ground effect/ground turbulence (they did mention new atmospheric model . . .)Mixture/prop control - currently it's pretty far off the mark, even on the payware products like DF A36 and B58.As for the visuals, all I'm really hoping for is:ability to have true 100% overcast for breakout to minimumsbetter pollution/haze from metropolitan areasnight glow from citiesbetter widescreen support - I'm tired of oval dials.More flexible ATC with vectoring/SIDS/STARS. That's it ;-D

Hi,I've heard nothing of these either (oval dials will still be present, we've been told). Too bad. Also part of the mixture/prop control bug - the RPM sound increases pitch when you increase the throttle (even with constant RPM) and doesn't change at all when changing RPM.Take care,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

>Mixture/prop control - currently it's pretty far off the mark,>even on the payware products like DF A36 and B58.>IMO, the "mixture", since it's seperate from the prop control, isn't much of a problem. Becomes very noticeable at 6000'msl, and requires leaning. It's not linear, and appears to work in steps of around 1000', but still serves the purpose rather well.L.Adamson
