The REAL DEAL on FSX!!!

Featured Replies

After reading the rants--oops, I mean the well-reasoned discourse in another thread (http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=248&topic_id=8441&mode=full) I thought it was finally time to end the speculation and let you know the full story on FSX.* Hoops. Yes, FSX will have hoops. Airports also have aprons, which are sorta like skirts, but FSX will not have hoop skirts. They went out in the late 19th century, which we all know was before the Wright brothers.* Flight Dynamics. FSX will have hoops (and pylons...and flour bombs...and animals) and it's well known that any time spent adding things like hoops actually subtracts from "realism". It's like a big vacuum, sucking the realism from existing code. In actuality the program code for FS is controlled by a big slider with "game" on one extreme and "sim" on the other. The development team of 50+ people usually spends the better part of 2 years debating on where the slider should be set and then, a month before release, we hire a temp worker to the change the setting. We then take the next year off.* Space flight. FSX will have space flight which, if you think about it, makes sense because flight takes a lot of space. Otherwise you don't get very far. Without space you'd get where you could go and then say, "Hey, I'm not very far from where I was." And since our founder is fond of asking "Where do you want to go today?" we like to be able to answer, "Far away from here!"* Shoot 'em ups. Yes, we are working to turn FS into a shoot 'em up game. We thought about turning it into a shoot "them" up game but that seemed too high-brow, hoity-toity. So we dropped the "th" and added a "'" and now we're wicked sick, yo!* Arcade shooter. We're against violence in public places so we wouldn't favor this. Unless you mean some sort of strong liquor consumed in a single gulp beneath an covered passageway near Sacramento (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=arcade) in which case, yes, I'll take two.* X-Box. I think I used to play this when I was a kid, 'cept it was called "Tic-Tac-Toe" and it have boxes for O's, too. Of course, once the first person put their X in the middle box the rest of the game was pretty predictable. FS isn't like this so I can't compare it to the X-box I remember. In fact, if Tic-Tac-Toe had hoops it probably would have been a more interesting game--but not as interesting as skirts in space.------Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor (and I don't even play one on TV) but reading and believing this may be bad for sanity. So do yourself a favor and limit yourself to the former, take two aspirin, toss back an arcade shooter and please, whatever you do, DON'T call me in the morning.

A large slider that conrols the realism in the game.. not that bad an idea. But it's the same as the realism settings in FS2004.>And since our founder is fond of asking "Where do you want to go >today?" we like to be able to answer, "Far away from here!"Hahaha, that cracked me up....

Wow! Someone needs a day-off! :( ;-)

That was funny and a real mood changer, thanks :)But Mike, get some sleep, or in your words;"Hit the sack, yo!"

Maybe you can put us out of our misery by posting the features. Then we wont need a doctor, or a shrink.

ref tdagger, Your sarcasm has failed big time. in fact, it has only confirmed all of the above.

>ref tdagger, >>Your sarcasm has failed big time. >>in fact, it has only confirmed all of the above. >What do you mean with that?Cut the guy some slack. He's been working around the clock to deliver a product that tries to satify every customer. There are more people out there that would like to fly. Everything here (in my opinion) has to be about the hardcore, die-hard simmer. Maybe that is what his post is all about, that he has to make a produkt with a wider range of customers. A lot of people a complaing, even do the final product is'nd released, and we don't know all features. There will alway's be room for discussion, about flightmodels, grafics, realism, when FSX hit's the store's.

I certainly have more respect for tdragger than I could ever have for you.James

I for one needed that tonic this morning, late night early morning (dawning in fact) left me drained. But tdragger's post put a smile on my face and for that I thank you tdragger. It also kinda brings home how silly we are all being over the arcadey nature we perceive in FS. It's not released, until it is, and until more details come out we are all just speculating (I'm as guilty here so not getting at anyone) that it would appease the XBox crowd. Wait and see, we may be pleasantly surprised.

I can't say yet whether it's funny or sad. I think we'll have to wait until november/december when FSX is released to answer.I can't comment on the jokes since I ain't allowed to.I can't post screenshots of me laughing - yet. Maybe I'll have the last laugh. It could be, that I should let 3. party developers answer the question. I think the SDK will make be happy or sad - who can tell?--------Disclaimer: I'm a user and have been for several years now. I post negative comments, when I see something I don't like or understand. Good and positive comments rarely come, because we don't want the developer to be too happy. It's must easier to be mad!

HAHAHAHA!I just hope Mike enjoyed writing that as much as I did reading it! :-)
