The subscription is not for Microsoft Flight Simulator but the portal called PC Game Pass or XBOX Game pass which gives you access to Azure Cloud I think you will find.

That's not what Game Pass is about. It just puts games on a rotation that you can download and play for a low monthly rate. So far, all of these games can also be purchased outright. MS have given zero indication at this point that you'll HAVE to subscribe to anything in order to play MSFS aside from xbox live for mp.

Or you could be like me.  Just buy v4 once.  🙂  Then sit back with a black-and-tan.

Sit with which one?

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

That's why I'm considering the new XBOX with the massive storage cheaper than building a new PC🙄

Good point perhaps. But, what about attaching hardware peripherals (yoke, throttles, pedals, switches) or the use of a second (or maybe a third) screen for moving maps or charts?

I think we can assume the new "Scarlett" Xbox will have enough USB support for flight controls, because car racing games are very popular and those peripherals work on the current Xbox. Maybe not everything -- I'm thinking of things like the Saitek modular instruments due to driver support -- but at least primary flight controls like yoke/joystick, throttle quadrants, and pedals.

Second or third screens, not likely. Greater visual immersion on the console will be done with VR, so people who want multiple screens simulating the cockpit windscreens will probably need the PC version. That may be the case for other "side screen" use too, like iPads or laptops used for moving maps, EFB, etc., unless the Xbox supports network links.

It's still an interesting idea to consider using the new Xbox as a flight sim "black box" if you only need basic flight controls. The specs they're showing so far are impressive, and the projected price of the new console is somewhere around the cost of a new GPU that's only one or two steps down from the highest-end consumer gaming GPU's for the PC. With the new console, you might be getting something equivalent to a higher-end GPU upgrade for the PC along with a super fast SSD drive and beefy CPU "for free."

On the other hand... you won't be able to use that new power you bought for any flight sim other than the new MFS. Or I guess Ace Combat 7 too, if you're into that. So I would guess it isn't going to be a popular solution for many of us. Not unless and until MFS is established well enough to dominate the market.

If it's a fair scheme, I would consider it.

But would just prefer to buy it outright, and be done with it.  🙂

The same way as the Xbox /PC compatible steering wheel that's available now.

The specs in your sig are very impressive. You don't have that system anymore? I wouldn't advise anyone to get this for the console. If you're worried about massive storage the game will likely be streaming the scenery assets anyway.

That what I have been saying but do you think streaming will be free from the Azure not requiring a game pass subscription, you will need an account to be on the FS insider programme that's what it`s telling me but I have one so no problem.

In the UK live TV streaming comes at a cost there is very little free to air sports even the open golf a full SKY package with live sport F1 Football Golf all the sports channels will set back over £100 A month.

There's a MS game called Crackdown 3 which uses the "power of the cloud" to perform physics calculations for destructible objects and geometry. It can be bought outright or picked up on game pass. While streaming assets is a bit different, MS has never indicated that they'd charge extra for having a game augmented by Azure. At this point I'd assume that there will not be a subscription model outside of someone choosing to go with Game Pass.

It could be that the entire game can be streamed too, at the other end of the scale. I think their version of google stadia is launching in the autumn?

I've got a good idea. Why not put it on a couple of DVDs? That way, if your PC ever goes tissia ulos (Finnish, look it up) you can reinstall it with no loss to your download bandwidth. And... it's yours to keep. Simples.

I think I'll drop a line to Bill and see what he thinks.
