I don't think they've confirmed "real time real world weather downloaded from the Internet" yet. The only thing I've seen is "real weather" which might not be the same. What the journalist was describing was what I'd call Arcade Weather, which might be fine for some but the idea really puts me off for a long flight. You need custom weather scenarios for missions, and many people will want to be able to set the weather conditions. I need to be able to check real weather maps and do my own forecasts as this is an essential part of flight planning for anything but a local flight. It didn't help matters that I read that article while I was hand flying a DC-3 in real time from Reykjavik to Goose Bay (9 hours) with no reference to GPS and no wind information during the flight. The first three hours of the flight I had to offset my course by 5 degrees to the right due to winds, planned before I began the flight using info from windy.com. Edit: And pure dead reckoning all the way. The only time I tuned an NDB was to make sure I was somewhere near my correct course nearing Greenland which was under broken cloud cover and I couldn't see enough of the coastline to get an exact position. I still hit Newfoundland only 35 miles off from where I intended. Hook Edited July 25, 20196 yr by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! I agree, and I think that's one reason people interpret "real weather" to mean real time real world weather. I was assuming we'd get that myself, even knowing it was not exactly confirmed, until I read what that article said. I'm not saying there won't be real time real world weather (and hopefully historical weather if you choose), just that we haven't had unambiguous confirmation yet. I am definitely hoping for real time real world weather myself. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I guess all the folks buying aren't on Steam? I would NOT place too much weight on Steam's data as a representation of average PC hardware and certainly not for average Flight Sim hardware. Cheers, Rob. GPUs shortage has in part been caused by the cryto currency craze. GPUs are also being used for AI applications. In my neck of the woods there has been months of waiting to get NVidia GPUs. I waited six months for my 1080 and just gave up and cancelled. I hope things will be better when I need a new computer for FS2020. Your comment on streaming really concerns me. I just don't get how it can be a smooth experience if you have to rely on broadband, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But I fear current stutters might be minor in comparison. I have been waiting for VirginMedia to come to my Home for 5 years+.. and mine was a new build.. so they didn't had the thought of putting the brand new fibre when they build the development from scratch.. just saying.. it seems they are more focused around London area and main cities, so the further away you live from them, the less chances you get for a decent connection. Now the Huawei scandal might not even bring 5G on time in the UK.. grrrr S. Oficial Website: https://www.FSReborn.com Discord Channel: https://discord.gg/XC82TqvKQ3

But that can have marketing issues with users who complain about not being able to run at full settings. The huge risk for MS designing for PCs and Xboxes 'of the future' is that they can only guess the future direction of computing. Who's to say where the next big hardware push will come? Part of FSX's problem was the expectation at creation that CPUs would continue to be limited cores, but we would have huge Ghz clock speed increases. That didn't pan out, we got more cores and large improvement on GPUs. In all cases one's internet connection is the governing factor ... and bandwidth congestion. Very true, BUT I don't believe "game streaming" is what MS has in mind for FS2020. Almost all of the new sim will be installed to the PC/Xbox and it will run client side, I'm fairly certain the only items which will be streaming are the sat images, multiplayer position data, and weather data, maybe possibly AI position data too. All of this can be buffered far in advance of the player position very efficiently, this would greatly reduce any latency issues for most users.

My broadband provider is fairly typical and offers three packages (mainly depending on location): Fast broadband: Average download 10Mbps, average upload 1Mbps Superfast fibre broadband: Average download 66Mbps, average upload 17Mbps Ultrafast fibre broadband: Average download 300Mbps, average upload 27Mbps The superfast is by far the most common. I have it but only get about 34Mbs (which tied in with their best estimate for my location). 6 hours ago, LHookins said: And pure dead reckoning all the way. As I stated earlier, last year Virgin installed a cabinet on a main road approx 300yds (revised estimate) from our front door. Problem is we live along the end of a lane and our existing copper connection is to a pole on another main road! Not sure if VirginMedia can find an affordable solution for us without digging up the lane. Anyway, I have expressed an interest so will wait and see what transpires. Since the assets are already installed hopefully it shouldn’t be too long before we find out. Assuming it’s possible, I very much doubt whether we will see anything like 1GB/sec. Mike
