Xbox servers down

from BusinessInsider.com

"Microsoft's online gaming service, Xbox Live, powers online gaming for millions of Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners.

On Friday afternoon, the service went offline for a large portion of those Xbox owners. Microsoft reported issues with the core functionality of Xbox Live, from basic signing in to account management and search functionality.

It was the third time in as many days that Xbox Live's "core services" went offline."

Yes, this is definitely not a rare occurrence. Xbox fans know it well! 😭

Weird things I have noticed the past few days with commercial entities.  When I went to the bank yesterday, their ATM was down, that was in the morning and it was still offline in the afternoon.  Some websites I check on daily have been offline or have had problems getting put offline.  I have to wonder if a cyberattack or virus attack is going on.  I know some public entities have reported ransomware attacks and have had to pay the extortionists who create them.

Thank goodness for their karma coming in the afterlife, pain of death is enjoyable to imagine, their cybercrimes hit hospitals, threaten the patients there, and attack children who enjoy video games or hobbyists like ourselves, and the countries that support cybercrime--well nukes are even too kind for them.

I feel cybercrimes are a cowardly way to make a living, even the mafia and gang members are kinder than those who assault us from behind a keyboard, they have more courage.

Yeah, well criminals of any sort don’t have much of a moral compass unless of course the crime is a matter of living or not. By that I mean like a homeless person stealing food to survive or something to that effect.

If a homeless person scams someone to live, that is why they are homeless.  Beggars can't be choosers.....  Right back at ya', lol.  You have to give a listen to England Dan and John Ford Coley's cover of "Love is the Answer" written by Todd Rundgren, it sums it up, in the end, when we meet our maker, we're all homeless boys and girls.  You will understand the message, jc

Mafia and gang members tend to be the ones ultimately behind these attacks

Chinese and Russian Mafia, I agree with you on that one

I had to position down to London yesterday to pick up an empty jet. I couldn’t check in on line with BA using my IPhone, due to a system error it said.

Instead I had to go to the airport and speak to an actual human, who then gave me a little slip of paper with some numbers printed on it, which then allowed me to board the aircraft, most quaint!

The entire gig is one ginormous house of cards and at the moment its vulnerabilities continue to accelerate.   We don't seem to want to put enough resources and ingenuity into better cyber security.

Im sure most first-world governments are putting everything possible into it and are still being breached. It's a cat and mouse game that's almost impossible to win.

The big problem with cybersecurity is the languages being used. C/C++ is fast because it doesn't check that you only read memory which is "yours" and this an attacker can exploit a bug to overwrite memory with his own code or read memory which contains sensitive info. There are safer languages, but they are safer because they check more things when the program is running, and thus they are slow. There are new languages being developed to try to be fast and safer, and MS recently strate blogging about the need to use such languages and their plan for adopting it to reduce the amount of security bugs in their products.
