FSX - FS9 aircraft gauges?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, I've been trying some FS9 addon aircraft in FSX with pretty good results except for some of the gauges. I keep getting messages about some of the gauges, either that they are FS98 and not supported or whatever. Is there any way to at least eliminate the error messages I get when loading these excellant FS9 aircraft? How do you folks get around or eliminate the messages? Thanks in advance....

Get rid of the FS98 style gauges. They don't work in FSX anyways."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

Thanks in>advance....As EdrickV said...you must remove the offending gauges from the panel.cfg file. For example, if FSX reports (I don't recall if it does, I only messed with 1 old airplane in the demo) that compass.gau is the offending gauge, then you can either delete the gaugeXX=compass.gau line in the PANEL.CFG file, or comment that gauge out with //.In its place, you'd have a big black hole in your panel. You might then look into substituting an FSX gauge in its place. I'm sure in the above example, that you could use the compass found in the Cessna in place of the old compass gauge.RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc.

Thanks folks, appreciate the info, I'll get to work on panel.cfg's now....

How many panels out there have the old fs98 gauges though? I have quite a few panels for fs9/fs2002 so how do you tell if the gauges are fs98 or not? It's a shame if they aren't supported if the majority of the panels still use fs98 gauges. Any info would be great.Thank You.

Hi,I don't think you can tell just by looking at them. FSX will pop up a box with the names of the offending gauges (one by one), so you can make a list and remove/replace them.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

A lot of Fs9 aircraft use some FS98 gauges. Flight Sim Panel Studio will tell you what vintage the gauge is. Its too bad they won't work in FSX. Some of my favourite gauges are FS98, and I put them in all the aircraft that I fly. I am sure though that as time passes, FSX versions will be created. Some FS2000/FS2002 gauges don't work either.I edit the aircraft panel in FS9 using Flight Sim Panel Studio, and then copy it over into FSX. I copied the FSX gauges and aircraft folders into FS9 so FSPS can access them. FSPS will more than likely be upgraded for use in FSX in due time. It was not that expensive originally, something like $20. Not sure if there will be a cost to upgrade. It is a program that is worth its weight in gold if you like to tinker with panels!

How to tell:1. If it's something like Beaver.cab, then it's not an FS98 gauge.2. If you right click a gauge file, choose Properties, then choose Version, the Description field should tell you what version of flightsim it was designed for. If it's an FS98 gauge it ought to say "Flight Simulator 98 Module" there. (Though it's possible that field could be wrong.)3. From what I've read, FS2k introduced the "multiple gauges in one file" setup, so if the panel.cfg entry reads something like this:gauge00=737-400!hsithen it should be an FS2k (or newer) style gauge. (The ! specifying what gauge to use within the 737-400.gau file.)FS98, apparently, used one gauge file per gauge. Thus (using the standard naming style I've seen) you would see:gauge00=737-400.hsiwith the actual file being:737-400.hsi.gauThe . before hsi actually being part of the filename. As far as how much they've been used, I think most of the gauges in my FS9's gauge folder are FS98 gauges. Even recently released aircraft have been using them. (Say Steve Grant's DHC-3 Otter for FS9.)Addendum: It's also possible that some newer gauges (even XML gauges) may not work right. I've got an XML relative wind indicator gauge, made for FS2002, that doesn't quite work right in FS9."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

As a bit of reverse psychology, will any fsx gauges work in fs9??

Some will, some won't.

Depends on what is in the gauge code.

One way to find out, try 'em.

XML gauges probably will if the formatting (file headers and such) are adapted to FS9's scheme. Also, some simulation variables used for the FSX gauges might not be present in FS9.
