Flightscenery Portland - new pics

Featured Replies

Just figured I'd spread the word here. Vauchez posted some new pics of the almost-complete Portland scenery. This series features Pearson, a small airfield northwest of Portland International Airport. You can find the thread with the pictures [a href=http://www.flightscenery.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=692]HERE[/a].For those that aren't aware, he said this will initially be a FS9 release with a *FREE* upgrade to FSX.Man I can't wait until this is done.

I wonder how the Framerates are?

It looks awesome and Vauchez says that it has a minimal frame rate hit.

If his RI scenery is an indication, which I'm sure it is, frames should be very good.Dave

>I wonder how the Framerates are?Go to KPDX in the default scenery.Check your framerates there.Take maybe 5% away from your unlimited FPS. If even that...I lock mine at 20 FPS but in testing ( when running unlimited to check FPS ) I've seen well over 60+ with no problems and I have a very modest machine. He's improved his techniques since FZ01:Rhode Island.Take my word for it when I say that you'll be in awe. You'll wonder how he made it this good with no framerate ( okay, very very very minimal ) loss. I can take the PMDG 747 in and not notice any FPS drop. Same with LDS ( PMDG is worse on frames tho, so wanted to name that one first ).Before anyone says anything, I have specific permission from Vauchez to respond with this info ;)

Thanks for the heads-up, its been a while since I last check over there. Those shots look just awesome, and you know that it will run smoothly as well!I was going to say Vauchez is one talented developer, but he's more than that, he's a talented artist! And I can't imagine what he'll be able to do with the new features and enhancements that FSX will bring :D

Im looking forward to this release, thats for sure! Very cool it will be upgraded to FSX. I hope its released soon!

Yeah, Microsoft would have done well to hire this guy to work on some or all of the major airports in FSX. Having half of the detail he puts out would have been great for FSX.I always buy his stuff without question. Always minimal frame rate impact too. How does he do it?

Well, all that looks so cool that I am too afraid to even think what could be the next project.I have never intended to fly to Portland (not that I mind), but I WILL buy the scenery for the sake of its artism and esthetic enjoyment itself...Best regards,Rafal

There is no way Vauchez could have done so many airports with such detail... unless he sells his craft/skill and trained other artists.. yes I said artists not programmers to do what he does. Well..but if MS puts a lot of money in getting such a project going, they maybe able to pull it off.. but as a business, it may not be the greatest investment for them.Just my opinion.Manny

That captures the area about as well as is humanly possible. I went to Pearson several years ago and the screenshots look just like I remember it. There's a nice little museum there.

Hi guys. One picture stands out for me. Thats the picture (pic 7) where you are approaching the airport runway and you can see he has cleverly just by subtlely changing the angle of the grass texture get the illusion that the runway isn't flat. You think its got bumps or dips in it. Infact we know it is flat because AI planes couldn't use it but its small things like that that can make such a difference. Craig
