September 13, 200619 yr That is some scenery there....... honestly without actual engine improvements (which fsx doesn't have) you can't get it much better than that.so addon for fsx won't look any better than fs9 imo.and no, DX10 will do nothing, for those clinging onto it.Yes, in your opinion. Don't make it sound like fact when it's not. Bernard
September 13, 200619 yr Here's what I want to see: FSX + FlightScenery version of KPDX vs. FS9 + FlightScenery version of KPDX.Then we can have a worthy comparison.RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
September 13, 200619 yr Author It seems like we will have more options in FSX for creating hi-res scenery, but I think screenshots are not the issue; rather it is dynamic performance.scott s..
September 13, 200619 yr >*DING*>>Can you say TKO? :)>One of the best scenery designer(s) out there love his graphics work and realistic look and feel and performance FPS wise :-)My topic was with the release of "RI" that he "raised the bar" for scenery design...Aces should hire Vauchez ;-)There are only a few in this community that can impress me regarding graphics ;-) Hope that this one will be available for FSX too ;-) but FS9 will be used for a long time to on my PC hehehe ;-)Let's hope that more scenery designers will follow his work ;-)Andr André
September 14, 200619 yr My only wish is... for Vauchez to move from a boutique to a larger shop.If some folks are hired from any part of the world (cheap labour) and trained to produce some stuff.... and then another team here to put them together and retouch some stuff and then finally overviewed and QA ed by Vouchez, we could have a larger scale production.:)MAnny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
September 14, 200619 yr Another way to look at it from a financial perspective is that the one KPDX add-on might cost you $29.95, but the one FSX KPDX airport costs you about 1/4 of a penny (24,000 airports at $60 for the package, a difference of 11,980%). Is the add-on really 11,980% better??
September 14, 200619 yr Definitely spell 'definitely' right while you're at it!(Good natured post, here) :-)
September 14, 200619 yr Where's the I-5 bridge over the Columbia River between Portland and Vancouver in FlightScenery Portland? See upper left in 1st shot at FS9 + FlightScenery version of KPDX at http://www.flightscenery.com/phpBB2/viewto...php?p=4796#4796. BTW, the bridge is there in default FS9 as it is in FSX. See 1st shot FSX version of KPDX at http://www.flightscenery.com/phpBB2/viewto...php?p=4739#4739.Just wondering.Rob
September 14, 200619 yr Hello Rob,You can see the I-5 bridge here:http://216.25.73.93/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=692(9th image from the top). It didn't show on the top view image because the visibility distance for it was too great.Best regards,Vauchez.
September 14, 200619 yr We can't have our cake and eat it too?Regardless of my previous somewhat flippant remark, I hope lots of people buy it....because I would hate to think there isn't a reward for that kind of talent and artistry. I wish he'd write a book....but I suspect there are few of us that have the patience to put that much effort and detail into a scenery project!
September 14, 200619 yr >That is some scenery there....... honestly without actual>engine improvements (which fsx doesn't have) you can't get it>much better than that.>>so addon for fsx won't look any better than fs9 imo.>>>and no, DX10 will do nothing, for those clinging onto it.What's your experience with FSX, gyrate? (It'd be nice to have a name, btw, if you're going to hurl inflammatory statements like that) I've been on the FSX beta team from the get-go, and I can assure you that you're wrong on every count, with the (doubtful) exception of the DX10 wisecrack. The only reason I can't back up a rebuttal to that is that I, like you, cannot even get a DX10 card yet, so it would be pure idle speculation. The engine -- which is actually a collection of individual tasks working in concert -- has definitely seen improvement. They have also added some visual capabilities that were lacking FS9 which, if used by the developer properly, can most assuredly improve the look of a scenery addon in FSX as compared to FS9. It won't be a direct port; they'll still have to make a few changes, but it will improve the way things look.
September 14, 200619 yr I had seen the I-5 bridge in the Pearson Field images several days ago, too. Even noted the accuracy of FlightScenery's rendition of the bridge vs. default. But failed to make the connection last night when I saw the newer images.Others have commented on the River's "blueness" in FS9/FSX. The real Columbia. at that point of its course, is dark olive green (think of a US Army dress uniform) with a touch of blue. It's dark. I have fiddled with the hue of the Columbia River ad nauseum using ALL of the available water-altering addons (there must be 20+ of them). When I got it where I wanted it and then stood back to look at the bigger picture, the River seemed to impose its darkness on the entire shot (the surrounding land and features anyway, not sure about the sky) and certainly reduced the contrast with most objects in the River or passing over, i.e., ships, bridges. Look to the shot Vauchez referenced above and imagine the River dark olive green. Many of the I-5 bridge details would disappear as well as shadows on the water. So I left the River default blue. Guess I don't have Vauchez' patience, certainly not his skill.I suspect that's why FS9/FSX rivers are so blue. They fiddled with it, and that was their compromise. IMHO, Vauchez got the hue of the Columbia River much closer to the real thing without compromising brightness or contrast. Kudos! But what will happen when I fly out of FlightScenery Portland's coveage area? Like up-river into the Gorge, Holger Sandmann's territory? Will the river abruptly turn blue again? Will there be a combination of .bgl(s) and/or .bmp(s) in FlightScenery Portland that I could paste into the main FS9 folders to get that hue in all my rivers? I hope that question doesn't offend anyone. It's not illegal is it? If it is, forget it I guess. But it sure seems I see files in the scenery/texture folders of various addons that are "borrowed", not just from freeware, but payware as well. It's not clear if all that borrowing is authorized. If one buys an addon, can specific features of that addon be used elsewhere in FS, for one's own use only? Do you buy the package only, or the parts as well, to do with as you choose, for your own use, of course? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all.Guess I strayed from the topic a bit. I suspect this question has been asked/answered before. References?Rob
