November 14, 20196 yr Beyond what Christopher said, it's really baffling that people are looking down on a flight simulator because it's "a game." Who cares what they call it or what the target market is? Delta has a level-D full motion sim at its museum in Atlanta. Ordinary members of the public can pay some money and go flying in it. It's clearly a game, because those people aren't training in it - they're playing pretend at being airline captains for half an hour. That doesn't mean the sim itself is somehow a lousy sim, or that it's a lesser system than the same sim in a flight training center. I get that we're under restriction on how we phrase our discussions about p3d due to the licensing, but that doesn't mean we ignore reality, especially outside of the P3d space. If we're really honest we, to include LM, know full well that not everyone who runs p3d is *training* on it. They're treating it as a game -- a game with a very steep learning curve, but a game nonetheless. A2A has a Lockheed Constellation you can get as an addon for p3d. No one's training in that thing because there aren't any real flying (non-Super) Constellations in existence. If you really think people are training with the Connie then Call of Duty should count as boot camp. New recruits, see if you can get that past your DI. The bottom line is how good the simulation is. It doesn't matter how it's marketed or what the license says it is. If P3d were a bad port of River Raid from the Atari 2600, then it would be a bad sim/fun game even though LM says it's a training tool and not a game. If FS2020 has great flight simulation characteristics, then it's a good sim even if Microsoft says it's "only" a game. You can call it a word processor for all I care. As long as it's a good flight simulator, I'll still use it. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light

November 14, 20196 yr You can follow the streaming from here Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

That's an uncommon refreshing post in Avsim. Spot on. I mean there is a pattern here on Avsim... And someone speaking is mind out of this pattern is... well... cool to hear. I love FSX / P3D / XPLANE as games. As a CFI that does not keep me from teaching real flying to real professionnal and private students with theses synthetic tools. That does not bother me a seconds thoses are classifieds as games, because I guess most people without proper knowledge use it at such, and that's perfectly fine. I would say more, that is desired, because I can't count the number of real pilots who came from gaming Flight Sim, that is so cool. These games create real life passions and careers. November 14, 20196 yr That’s pretty cool then. To be honest I’m mainly concentrating on how poorly the presenters and guests are performing. It’s fascinating.
