It's not called MSFS2020. Change my mind.

Featured Replies

The development team, as well as all the media pertaining to the new Microsoft Flight Simulator has been explicit with respect to the title of the project. It is NOT called "FS2020" or any derivative thereof.

What will it take to get Avsim (and others) to stop inventing titles?

I think the chosen title makes perfect sense. It makes clear its association to the original Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise, and the lack of a date qualifier at the end reinforces the revolutionary versus evolutionary nature of the reboot.

I've also seen MSF2020, MFS2020, FSX2020 (what is this, an FSX remaster?), and FS20 (we went from the 10th version of the sim to the 20th somehow?).

Doesn't make sense why people keep calling it anything other than what it is. Previous versions didn't get imaginary titles, but for some reason this time it's different. I say cut the confusion for the folks new to the franchise and keep it simple - Microsoft Flight Simulator or MSFS.

Totally agree! I've also seen FS20 bandied about.

This arrogance of thumb-sucked names disrespecting Microsoft originated, & gained traction here at Avsim.

Microsoft, it is said, reads these forums, & allegedly, those using such names have not been accepted into the alpha testing program.

Anyone saying that using the correct name is confusing... Seriously?

It's called simply FS. Obviously, because it's simply the best!

For many, Prepar3D (Prepared) is "Prepar" 3D (prepar three dee). So....

The new sim is MSFS only, off course.

Mike, as you are an Official Aerosoft Beta Tester, why do yoy not call Aerosoft  'AS'? & ProATC X 'PAX'?

That's using your renaming logic!

Dunno, it's like calling de Havilland 'dH', or NVidia  'NV' o& based, again on your logic, Avsimmers should rename X-Plane 11.4 to XP2019

I'm as guilty as anyone of calling the new sim FS2020. The main reason is that when I write it that way people realistically know exactly what I mean.

Microsoft Flight Simulator has always been the name of the franchise as a whole. It might be the project name of the new version (although I'd think they would have a much shorter internal name such as "Wibble") and it might be the final release name, but have they actually stated this?

If someone writes (outside of this forum which is specifically about the version currently in development) Microsoft Flight Simulator then it is ambiguous between several versions.

To be totally honest, I've got bigger things to worry about, such as... well... life )

I'd love to see the year postfix prunned, and think of MFS as a platform that grows with updates without requiring users to buy a new version each time a big update takes place.

That's one of the reasons I love War Thunder for too... It updates flawlessly almost every week or so, there are big interim updates ( at least one per year ) and you don't have to "buy" new version each time - it simply poors into your install folder(s) and you keep playing. Content ? That's another story...

And, btw, I would not be chocked if NFS or future versions of XP turned subscription-based either. I could take my usual hiatus from it and return back when in the mood...

1/ What about Windows 8 to 10 without passing by case 9 ? What about FS95, was it the 95th version ?

2/ No, it is not like if people would have called past iterations, 2K, 2K2, FS9, right ? Not like if people said P3D instead of Prepar3D.

Inventing such an argument (being polite here) for the sake of a demonstration shows only a lack of a reasonable argument.

Anyway thank you for the fun thread, guys ! It brightened my breakfast.

 FS20 forever !

This has to be sarcastic. wow.

You really think microsoft cares what people call their sim? Do you say "microsoft windows 10" when you talk about your pc?

If I recall correctly  FSX real name is "Microsoft Flight Simulation X" , FSX has never been an official name for the sim, and yet noone complains about it.

We are going to talk a lot about this new sim,  a shorthand version  of the name will be handy. Be it MSFS or FS20 I don't care. I like FS20 and I'll use it. If it annoys some people on this forum it won't prevent me from sleeping at night.

As for not being accepted in the alpha based on how you call the sim, well, that is just plain wrong.

Long live FS20.

Regarding being admitted to the tech alpha, apparently there is a sacrificial rite being held later this week (bring your own lamb)

How do you know?   Change my mind!

Ever heard of FSX:SE? Remember Microsoft's own site? https://fsxinsider.com/ & nobody ever called it FSX2006!

By the way....FS20 is actually the short form name for the forthcoming version of Farming Simulator (developed by Giants Software.)

See  https://forum.giants-software.com/viewtopic.php?t=147646

Maybe you are a little confused and are in the wrong forum?
