What about FS95, was it the 95th version ? 2/ No, it is not like if people would have called past iterations, 2K, 2K2, FS9, right ? Not like if people said P3D instead of Prepar3D. The version 20 bit was meant more tongue in cheek, but the difference is those things are officially called what you've called them. Prepar3D and FS2004 are also officially known as P3D and FS9. November 29, 20196 yr I wish we would get a daily episode of revealing more of the simulator from Microsoft/Asobo so that we have something real to discuss. Siggy Schwarz
November 29, 20196 yr It's called MSFS because it's supposed to be a long-term project. It makes no sense to call it 2020 by 2025
November 29, 20196 yr Author 1 hour ago, Julkensen said: If I recall correctly FSX real name is "Microsoft Flight Simulation X" , FSX has never been an official name for the sim, and yet noone complains about it. Actually, that is incorrect. According to the original ACES team, the title was properly verbalized as "Flight Simulator Ten". The "X" was a Roman numeral. But then, as now, the user base botched it.
November 29, 20196 yr There is actually a big X on the box, so obviously that X was verbalized by the user base. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
November 29, 20196 yr Everybody understood that the X meant 10, but fsx sounded better than fs10, so it prevailed. The official name is one thing, what the community choose to call it is another. The very fact that microsoft called it FSX came from the fact that the community chose to call fs2004 FS9. Why it came to be called fs9 i have no idea, but microsoft embrassed it. MSFS seems weird because it is the first time that we don't have a number at the end of the name. I think what microsoft is doing with msfs is the same as with windows 10. When it came out it was said that windows 10 would be the last windows. What it meant was that instead of realeasing new windows versions, with incrementing numbers, windows 10 would remain and small updates would be released instead. Now we have "creators updates" rather than windows 11 or 12. The same thing will happen with MSFS, the name will stay and we will have continuous updates without a name change.
November 29, 20196 yr FS2004 was called FS9 as it was the 9th sim program produced my Microsoft: FSX was obviously the 10th. There were 2 updates, version 5.1 & 6.1. And you are correct by saying that, like Windows 10, MSFS will be updated with çreator/service updates. 1982 Flight Simulator 1.0 version 1 1983 1984 Flight Simulator 2.0 version 2 1985 1986 1987 1988 Flight Simulator 3.0 version 3 1989 Flight Simulator 4.0 version 4 1990 1991 1992 1993 Flight Simulator 5.0 version 5 1994 1995 Flight Simulator 5.1 version 5.1 1996 Flight Simulator 95 version 6 1997 Flight Simulator 98 version 6.1 1998 1999 Flight Simulator 2000 version 7 2000 2001 Flight Simulator 2002 version 8 2002 2003 Flight Simulator 2004-version 9 2004 2005 2006 Flight Simulator X - version 10 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 Flight Simulator Robin "Onward & Upward" ... In fact that makes perfect sense because nVidia also named their current graphic cards 2080, instead of 1180. <insert mind blown gif here> Interested in real world general aviation? November 29, 20196 yr Cant believe there is a thread that debates the upcoming official title. It doesnt matter what its called or what I call it. The marketing is out there. A new flight simulator from Microsoft and Asobo Studios. What I do know, is I want to fly it as soon as possible and so do so many others including the general gaming community with all the attention its getting. Theres gotta be better things to discuss.
