I returned from the Caribbean to South Florida yesterday. Few miles before reaching DHP I descended below the clouds and had a wonderful view, the Mami skyline on the right. Few minutes approach procedure at 2000ft to TMB, it looked and felt right. The orthoscenery and all the objects, streets and vegetation. Very well done! Today I continue to EYW, let’s see how it works with the scenery by X-Aviation. I’ll report...

I think that's the LatinVFR version port over of KEYW.

There are some beautiful freeware airports by Freddy De Pues. It looks like they were removed from the .org forum, but I see some are available at flightsim.com. There are a few other freeware and payware airports for FL. I also saw that there's a KTPA being developed. It would be nice to know if they are compatible?

Got to send Freddy a PM to see what the hell happened.

KTPA has always been a weak spot in X-Plane. Last time I checked there was a promising version on the .org, but nothing final. A shame, especially since it's largely similar to KMCO and I suppose some assets could be reused.

One would think by now that FlyTampa would have already ported their version. It's a shame because it's not that hard!

FlyTampa. The irony.

If I ever load XP again I'll post some pics of how FT's KTPA looks in XPlane 11.

Orbx gives you a remake of most airports in the download.  I had a custom KPGD, from the .org...but the Orbx (downloaded with the TE-Florida HD) is ten times better, also with animation of flags and other things.  I haven't been to all of them, but did land from KPGD to Orlando...and it is quite excellent, with even animated Marshallers with the light wands.   This is all included in the purchase.

Based on the trailer (I haven't bought it yet), Orbx did a good job with the water colors for the Keys and Miami. A tiny bit exaggerated here and there, but overall pretty realistic-looking. I grew up in Miami, spent most of my life there, and did a fair amount of commercial aerial photography in that area. Looks about how I remember it at low level from a helicopter, shooting powerboat ads for magazines.

The new Truecolour seems to work well and makes a substantial  difference I think.

I've been flying the real world jet into KMCO from the UK almost weekly now for the last few years so I've become quite familiar with Florida from the air, and this package looks just right. There's even a custom 3D model of the hotel we stay at, which was just a generic block in the previous P3D cityscene.release.

Thanks!

One more thing I should mention. Tony is providing some excellent support at the FTX forums.

Purchased KEYW, it’s 25% off and that’s close to a movie ticket now. Great combo, had much fun today.

Don’t those airport come with ortho scenery? I have to find a way to remove the airport orthos because I don’t think they will fit.

In the case of KEYW, you did the right thing and get the ORBX version. I'm sure that there's a way to make the freeware airports available compatible with TE FL. I doubt that the airports that come with TE FL are better than some of the freeware by Freddy De Pues. They are among the best I've used in X-Plane 11. Tony did say in a post that all he did was re-align and slightly improve the FL airports.

Yep, correct. I spent some time tidying up and fixing a large pile of the default airports so they fit in nicely, i.e. Aligning runways, removing trees and ugly ground polys, etc. There are a lot I couldn't do anything with, e.g. grass strips that no longer seem to exist.

It's an on-going process. Some will end up back in the default X-Plane, others won't because of differences.
