December 30, 20196 yr Hi there guys, I have two questions I would like to ask. I didn't find answers anywhere here. 1. My SSD 500Gig, is full and I cannot add much more. Already had to delete less important things to add other 'addons'. So I was thinking in transferring FSX to an external SSD and do the simulation from there. Will it be too slow and unplayable? Is it possible? 2. Is FSPilotShop dead? If so, how does a person retrieve info, if you have to re-install stuff and so on? Is there a way to do it? Thanks in advance. Your help will be much appreciated. Merry Xmas. John goncalves.
December 30, 20196 yr 1. If you use an external with a sufficiently fast interface, like USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt, it's probably workable. A better option, with SSD prices as low as they are now, would be to replace the current internal SSD with a larger one. 2. FS Pilot Shop is history. You can try to contact the developers of products you bought from FSPS...some are helpful, some not so much. December 30, 20196 yr External SSD is likely to be slower to access and data transfer is also likely to be slower than with an internal drive. Best options would be to transfer everything from you current SSD to a larger SSD or move FSX to another internal SSD. December 31, 20196 yr An internal SSD is a much better option, especially if you can add a second one. You could even upgrade your Windows install's primary hard drive this way if you have external drives and time to back up the original SSD. Last month I upgraded mine from 240 GB to 2 TB. January 1, 20206 yr With the exception of the initial load times the external drive will be fine. This is some info I posted in an earlier thread. The only thing I'd add is to say that all of the external drives were mounted in a USB3 docking station. All mileage is, of course, variable. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's my admittedly-unscientific look at FSX load times with varying drive configurations. These times are the average of three executions of FSX for each scenario. I see no reason why the results for P3D wouldn't trend the same. The only add-on is a complete set of ORBX scenery. I saw NO difference in in-game performance no matter which drive was being used. My bottom-line? You can run FSX from any drive you chose and the only penalty is going to be the initial load time. But, you may already know that.........
