system requirements for tech alpha, anyone?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any idea on the system requirements of the tech alpha. Do you need the latest tech to get in?  What are they looking for, any idea?

Here are my PC specs (PC about 8 years old, except storage and graphics card; updated couple of years ago)

OS Name    Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BaseBoard Manufacturer    ASUSTeK Computer INC.
BaseBoard Product    P8P67 DELUXE
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    8,00 GB
Total Physical Memory    7,98 GB
Graphics: GeForce GTX 960, NVIDIA compatible

Main storage: 200GBSSD

Secondary: 1TB HD

I believe that any official minimum specifications do not exist yet. They said they have refrained from doing so because the simulator is still in early optimisation stages.

When Tech Alpha 1 testers were getting invited, it seemed that having 32GB RAM equipped in your system was key to entering the alpha test. There were very few reports of 16GB RAM systems getting in. However, at some point, they'll really want to test the simulator on a very wide range of systems, but probably after they get a fair work of optimisation in, so don't lose hope yet.

Right now Tech Alpha 1 is in testing, then Tech Alpha 2 will begin later this month, and a new recruitment process (probably for the Tech Alpha 3) will open soon. There will be several alpha builds leading to the beta or release.

They didn't disclose any system requirements for the Alpha. Sure they must have some kind of criteria to select people, but nobody outside the development team knows it. So you won't read anything reliable in here.

But looking to your specs, I would say your system is a bit outdated. Your CPU and GPU are a few generations behind. It will probably run the sim, when released, at lower settings. But I find it hard they would select you to test the sim at this point as most of the performance improvements will be made on the Beta Phase of the development. At the Alpha phase it seems to be running nice on newer systems, but I'm not so sure it would run fine on older systems.

Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

An expected outcome of Alpha and then Beta will be to best determine just what you have asked.

As already mentioned, no official specs have been released. However your CPU, RAM and graphics card specs are rather low to expect anything special from any modern game.

Just my opinion.

They won't be looking for the latest tech but it depends on what they're actually looking to test. I imagine they want things going as smooth as possible early on to test the functionality of the software and then later on will be looking to optimise and want some weaker machines in

I got the impression that anyone who had registered for tech Alpha 1 that wasn't selected in the first round would be selected in the second. Unless I misinterpreted that.

No, they said that anyone not selected for the Tech Alpha 1 will be automatically registered to the recruitment pool of the Tech Alpha 2. This one will also have more than one wave, so it is expected that they will keep adding participants at a steady rate.

I was at the X019 and what I saw, the demonstration computers for the press had a base of RTX 20..
What about the CPU ?

II fear our 4 core cpu will struggle, I'm ready at any  point from the day I'm recruited to do an ryzen platform  upgrade.

I don't know about the X019 event, but it was said that the Global Preview event systems were equipped with a Core i7-8700K, 64GB RAM and an RTX 2080 Ti. Apparently the GPU was being stressed, but that was at 4K resolution. A developer said that they were getting good results with a GTX 1060 at 1080p.

4C/4T CPUs might have some trouble, but I don't think the simulator will be CPU-heavy overall.

I might just be able to get 144fps at 1080p 😮

I love built from the ground up technology (looking at you P3D)

Didn't one of the developers say his work machine was on a 10XX series Nvidia card? Also not running at 4k.

Yes, this was the case I mentioned a couple of posts above. A developer working on the flight dynamics, GTX 1060 at 1080p and it performs quite well according to them.
