I want Active Sky quality in MSFS and improved on that.

Did you watch the Asobo video where they explain their work on the weather engine. It sounds like it.

It sounds good, but we still not now how advanced it is. The clouds look too much like cotton IMO.

The clouds are a question of taste. Mixed feeling on my side too so far (we are at an early stage). At least, they are volumetric so they shouldn't rotate, and the sunlight with them, when we turn the head. Outside developers should jump in anyway at some time after the release.

We will know how advanced the weather engine only at release  but the video gave us a technical  vision of what Asobo aims at  which fits well in what  GSalden asks for "I want Active Sky quality in MSFS and improved on that"

The teasers tend to show they are serious about it. I think of the column of rain under a cloud (something I still have to see in our sim), the icing of an aircraft etc. I am personally impressed that they will, at last, bring  to the simulation, the intricacies of the wind flow over the relief (ridge, slopes etc.).

A lot of unknowns still like what to expect for the snow  etc . But it is a WIP . Looking good.

This topic about P3D seems to have morphed into another MFS love-in. Keep on topic please.

P3D and MFS are from the same family Ray, half-brothers, cousins I don't know but the same family anyway😉. Their roots are entertwined. Their customers base too.

The last time I checked Asobo had nothing to do with P3D. The request stands.

Then I will rail back to our topic :

I think that we will not see a V4.6 and will go directly to V5 .

Right now I could care less if P3D v4.6 is released. I'm enjoying, for the 1st time ever, flying in photo realistic sceneries with custom AG & night lighting and most of the scenery packages are freeware.

My sentiments exactly. I didn't make the jump to P3D until October of 2018. Prior to that, I was fully enjoying and very happy with FSXSE. I only switched because LVFR came out with BWI (my home airport) and there were a couple of small issues in the FSX version that weren't in the P3D version. At any rate, I am super happy with 4.5HF2, and can honestly say that my current P3D install is the best looking, most complete, most stable flight sim that I have ever had. Dynamic lighting and PBR have transformed how things look in a major way. I'm truly enjoying my flights these days.

MFS looks amazing so far, and I can't wait to install a new hard drive and begin the next phase of flight simulation. For me, it's not an either - or situation. I plan on using both sims for a while. Firing up whichever one gives me the experience that I want at that particular moment in time. Eventually, I may end up using only one. I might keep using both forever.

There is so much you can do in P3D because of the huge numbers of addons it is simply incredible. MS2020 is not going to able to compete with that for a long time.

I'm not so sure about this. I suspect that many addons will come along in fairly short order once MFS arrives. There are other components, but addon airports are comprised mostly of 3D models designed with common software tools that are then converted to the type of models that the sim uses. MFS might use a completely different format for the models but Asobo/MS have been using something to import 3D models into the sim now and that should be available to the developers in the SDK. They'll need to learn some new things before they get all of their features working, but I don't see that taking all that long. Getting their standard format airport and aircraft models converted into MFS format should be fairly straight forward. My guess is that some addons will arrive very quickly, if not concurrently with the release of MFS.

I leave you with an ancient Jamaican proverb... Don't worry mon. Be happy. Everyting Irie in sim world.

That would suggest one or more major changes. What might those be? DX12 maybe? And what would that brings over DX11?

Whatever they do, I feel LM needs to take a big leap in some manner to show they are still a platform to reckon with.

Well that would be great but I suspect FSL will opt for MFS should they decide to proceed. No thoughts about what they might do with v5? They need to convince us to part with another $50 and more time invested in reinstalling our 3rd party stuff assuming it’s compatible.

What about better usability? Automatic in-game updates, streamlined and unified configuration files (including getting rid of the old scenery.cfg method in favor of add-on.xml with an appropriate mandatory layering mechanism), and shorter loading times.

Plus, resolving at least 50% of the terrain rendering isssues like limited autogen radius (or loading in patches), black buildings popping in, morphing textures in mountains and the like?

Kind regards, Michael
