We don't even know if the dev teams are in the office or at home, they might have even put work on the sim on hold..... time will tell.

Lighten up Dude - it was an attempt at humour.

Dangerous ground, humour. Remember, this is 2020 you should be 'virtue signalling'. Much more appropriate wouldn't you say?

I was going to say thank you for your moral guidance but then I remembered that I need to go to the big box store and get 6 more cases of toilet paper.

Quite true - Unfortunately humour was the first casualty of virtue signalling.

Actually, he is right, there are more important considerations. Let me see, there's...Cake, that's important, I mean everyone likes cake, don't they? Oh and steak, that's very important too. Mmmmm, steak. Tea, that's really important, with two sugar's please, and perhaps a biscuit, if you don't mind too much. Oooh, Jaffa Cakes, technically not a biscuit, but don't mind if I do. A beer you say? Well, go on then, I'll have a Corona...

And why on earth would that happen? If there is a field where everyone can just work from home, this is one...

True, in many  respects, however, there might be a bit more to it than simply people staying at home and firing up a laptop.

For example, in many ad agencies, design studios and places like that where I've often worked - and trained people - companies will have 'site licences' for software such as Adobe's Creative Suite (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator etc), and they'll have a physically wired server system for collective projects, so you can work with art directors etc. It is often easier with creative projects to just wander over to someone's computer to collaborate on matters and discuss stuff.

I've trained people on software remotely from my home on a few occasions - ironically on occasion teaching collaborative presentation applications such as Adobe's Captivate - and whilst I did get it done, using the training company's specialist classroom software with drop boxes, audio connection and screen sharing capabilities etc, there were occasions where it would have been far easier to just get a bit of paper and scribble a rough sketch, or point at the trainee's screen to clarify something, rather than doing it with all the fancy scratchpad tools in the training suite of software.

So when you have that kind of set up, it's not as easy or as smooth as one might imagine to have people work at home on a collaborative project. Not saying it's impossible, but it might take a bit of a shift in logistics for them to have it work and it's unlikely to be as speedy and smooth.

Any one of the literally thousands of people who's ever been on one of my training courses over the years, would be able to confirm that the trainer (i.e. me) having a big white board or a flip pad and some marker pens where one can scribble quick drawings to explain stuff is, something that I would frequently make use of, despite the fact that I'd be training people on the fanciest computers there are, on how to create high end CGI, graphics, movies etc. I won't say there's no substitute for being in the same room, but I do know it comes as a definite poor second in comparison to being in the same room with people when it comes to effective communication on creative processes.

If you are running short of toilet paper, just remember that Rupert Murdoch makes and distributes loads of it, so no problem.
