April 9, 20206 yr Vulkan VRAM consumption is lower than in OpenGL mode. With X-Europe and HDMesh, the former requires ~18 GB VRAM and the latter ~ 26 GB. If made sure that there is adequate space for a swap/page file, XP's memory usage shouldn't be an issue though. Since HDMesh and X-Europe in combination do, however, use ~14 GB of actual memory, an upgrade to 32 GB RAM might not be the worst thing to do if stutters due to paging/swapping are to be avoided. Heck, even 8 GB of RAM is okay if stuttering due to file loading when crossing scenery tile can be lived with. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
April 9, 20206 yr Tried Beta 2 this morning. Had Beta 1 which was doing pretty well. I turned off plug-ins that they said needed updates. Beta 2 resulted in the application restarting when I clicked the Nav light switch on my Just Flight Archer TX/LX. Restarted PC and ran it all again. This time, no sound. Nav switch started X-Plane again. Third time in, selected the Laminar 172 with G1000. Still no sound. Nav switch worked OK. Decided to go back to 11.4 and wait for 11.50 general audience version and for 3rd party developers to get up to speed. I'd rather do flights than spend all my time tweaking, re-configuring, and waiting and waiting to programs to load. I did like the increased FPS but I will be patient and wait for the bugs to be escorted out of town. 🙁

April 9, 20206 yr B3 is almost here. Release notes are now available. I still don't see the fix I'm looking for. Will now hope for B4 to bring me crisp textures. Beta 3 Fixed crash at launch with Linux + Vulkan. Fixed null pipeline with third party aircraft using custom lights. MSFS
April 10, 20206 yr Yay! Beta 3 fixed it. So, as the Orc captain said: "Meat's back on the table, boys!" 😁

I'm not an alpha tester, but I wonder if MSFS (whose previews appear to look better than XP) uses such huge amounts of RAM and especially VRAM. I don't think it violates the NDA to say that no, it doesn't have a requirement for huge amounts of VRAM. That's just common sense. No current "game" platform can get away with requiring 8+ GB of VRAM for even a basic level of performance, although of course you might get more eye candy if you do have higher amounts.
