Tony, how difficult is it for LR to model/copy the shaders of a preset such as "vivid" or "impressive" and make it a part of XP 11.50? Why can they do this for us?

Good question and something I wonder about myself.

Because Apple, LG, Dell, Sony, Viewsonic and all the other display manufacturers already did?

Nonsense! Alright smart.....

How about creating a video showing me exactly how X-Plane 11.50 shaders are altered by changing the settings on your monitor.

Again, good luck!

Huh!!! We're talking about shader updates here, not changing monitor or colour profile settings. XP 11.41 with xVision looks far better on the same monitor than 11.50.

Beta should have been pulled, loads of people are having problems with vram and CTD's.

This can be also one purpose of an open beta: to collect as much data as possible on as much different machines as possible in order to cross-compare implementations and code logic. For this reason alone, we could even be all running different versions (A/B compare tests).

How many times do users have to request for them to fix the shadows?

Rest assured they know and are working on it.

This is my biggest issue with the vulkan update, that it keeps me on 11.41.. I don't like the washed out, blurry look of the default sim, and without xVision I find it hard to use. Extra FPS is of course nice, but not at the cost of what it currently is. I hope someone manages to create a similar addon for 11.50 once it's out.

Hi, I've posted how to change the XP11 shaders a while back just for this. However it won't work for XP11.50 and might require some changes for XP11.41.

Here is the discussion:

Those "shader updates" -> like "vivid" and "impressive" just change the colour balance, contrast, brightness and gamma correction hitting the graphics driver. AMD and NVIDIA drivers, plus the monitors themselves allow exactly the same kind of modifications.

This is just the monitor colour profile setting (camera has auto colour balance, so the recording pretty quickly goes back to balanced after changing

But if you are "washed out" you probably just need to reduce the gamma a small amount.

You've just picked my curiosity: is it possible X-Plane shaders are designed around Gama 1.8 (older Mac) instead of 2.2 (sRGB). I'll raise the question to the devs.

It's not just the colours and washed out look. xVision fixed things like the glowing trees with shader tweaks, it made everything more vivid and sharper, it got rid of the excessive haze, made shadows stronger and numerous other things. Most of these fixes don't work in XP 11.50, and no amount of adjusting my monitor or colour settings work (P.S. I'm on Mac OS X, not Windows, which is rather limited in this regard and doesn't have such a control panel).

LR hinted at lighting improvements for future versions of X-Plane after the Vulkan work is done, I hope it happens. xEnviro does a good job as well, but that one still has many issues to resolve

All signs of a bad color profile. colour is a lot more complex than "too much red" (and im no expert tbh - I just know there is a lot i dont know)

pretty sure its on the mac colour profile one way or another - either of which looks terrible and often causes banding on windows "games" machines where the colour profile is designed to wash out the shadows so it is easier to spot opponents.

I'll keep playing around and see what I can find... One thing is that 11.50 looks better by default on Windows than it does on Mac OS. Could be a driver thing, nvidia vs AMD.. etc...

What often really confuses the issue is what you see when you take a screenshot isnt what i or others see.

I walked someone through a really weird issue with what seemed to boil down to hdcp last year sometime, everyone was being generally offensive to him because there was nothing wrong with the screenshots he was posting - it wasnt until I got him to take pictures with his phone that everyone could see the purple and yellow splodges in his clouds and spots of blue grass he was complaining about.

This is also nothing against the shader mods - there are a few that do do some impressive tweeks (depth buffer based cockpit shading being one Ive seen that looks great)

But its also really worth paying attention to what the modifications are actually doing because there is a lot of misunderstanding (and outright misinformation) that gets banded around and repeated a lot.

________

On a completely different note.

KLAX...

In default Vulkan I get 16fps there even on low settings.

I downloaded Ortho for the tile - up to 30fps.

on my home (heavily modded) airport and high settings are 60-70fps.

So there is still serious default scenery and other performance issues to be resolved.

Very good point.... and one I didn't consider
