June 6, 20205 yr I'm hoping someone from the Microsoft FS 2020 team will read this. Noticed something in the footage that's available for Heathrow Airport which I feel could be improved with a small change, but would pay tribute to one of the most iconic aircraft of all time - a 2D Concorde image at the approach to 27L. I know the likelyhood of Concorde being one of the included planes is slim, but given the history surrounding the aircraft, the uniqueness of her, and the fact that she is one of, if not the, most recognisable aircraft ever to have been produced, would it be possible to just have a 3D version of her sitting there instead. And potentially in the other open air sites where she is parked (Brooklands Museum, Orly Airport for example). Would rather just a little "model" instead of the flat 2D option, or if existing planes are being cleared up from airports so they don't appear as "paintings on the ground", can something be done with Concorde please Thanks Allen Forsyth
June 6, 20205 yr If they don't I will model it in 3D - can't go to EGLL without the old long-nosed lady sitting there checking the quality of flying coming in and out of her nest!
June 7, 20205 yr The one at Heathrow has been completely gutted and filled with junk as ballast against high winds, and the paint is very tired. Don't think you'd want that modelled very closely! i7-10700K; RTX 2070 Super; 16GB; P3Dv4.5HF3 & MSFS2020.
June 7, 20205 yr I don't think they would go down the path of modelling things in the world that are not actually there. However I'm sure someone with some spare time and experience in 3D modelling can knock some freeware together to achieve this.

June 7, 20205 yr She's not in too bad a shape. Some guys from Concorde Heritage gave her a spruce up not long ago. Her nose visor's a mess but if she ever goes undercover then that could be restored for cosmetic purposes. If MS don't include her she'll be first on my list of things to model and place. I'll then put it in the library for those who want it. She's got a few thousand copies of High Life magazine for ballast.
June 7, 20205 yr They should have built a hangar for the Heathrow Concorde (G-BOAB), just like they have done for G-BOAC at Manchester. Why save the plane from the scrap heap if you are going to leave it exposed to the chaotic nature of the British weather? June 7, 20205 yr Where is Ray Proudfoot? 😉 Irony aside, it is painful to see how such a once prestigious and beautiful airplane is shamefully abused for nothing more than loading some ballast... 😟
June 7, 20205 yr Moderator British Airways and Heathrow management should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. This aircraft carried royalty, pop stars, heads of state and many thousands of ordinary people who paid for the flight of a lifetime. To leave it exposed to the elements is a disgrace. If it’s still BA property then they have a moral duty to look after her. Manchester could see AC starting to degrade and did the right thing in constructing a hangar. That’s paid for itself because the airport now treat it as a cash cow. According to this site it’s recently been moved for some attention. G-BOAB apparently. https://www.heritageconcorde.com/at-risk-airframes Ray (Cheshire, England). Trust me, I know the guys at Heathrow. G-BOAB is in as good as hands as can be managed in current circumstances. She's Okay.
June 7, 20205 yr Moderator Perhaps it’s on show to remind people what they used to have and lost. Maybe in 20 years it will be replaced by an Airbus A320 but somehow I doubt it. June 7, 20205 yr It's an odd one Ray, if you take a look at the Brooklands - G-BBDG - or old "Delta Golf" as she was known - they've actually pulled her apart in many ways - for that Sim, Silver, Gold Experience, Cabin - Walkthrough, all that Visitor attraction stuff. Whereas, old BO is just sitting there - not very far at all from the main British Airways maintenance hangar - which runs 24/7/365 and is largely populated by people who loved Concorde. Where everyone can keep an eye on her. And I personally have experience of guys going out to her and doing maintenance/ sorting things out/ keeping her neat/ keeping her good. I fancy her chances of preservation "Intact" better than the old "Delta Golf." Of course, we should be putting maximum effort into preserving all of these incredible aircraft. But BO's in very good hands - after all; she's home. She's still insanely beautiful... There she goes; (in early Landor Livery) And then really goes; Look at her - In her element with Outer Space over her shoulder, Edited June 7, 20205 yr by Will Fly For Cheese
June 7, 20205 yr Moderator @Will Fly For Cheese, both Pete Dowson and I visited Brooklands in 2016 for lunch and two sessions on the simulator plus a visit to DG where I had photos taken of us on the flight deck. Very enjoyable experience with two former Concorde pilots both named Eric Smith. The sessions on the simulator were wonderful. I took off from 27L and with guidance from Cpt Smith as my first officer we turned east, descended to below a thousand feet and then dropped to near zero as I flew her through Tower Bridge. Then climb, accelerate for a landing back at Heathrow. My second flight was a takeoff on 31L at JFK and after some flying around lower New York a landing on 13L. Unforgettable handling real Concorde controls. 😃 It is reassuring that there are staff at Heathrow still looking after her. When she’s in such a prominent position appearances are important. Thanks for that news, it’s very reassuring. 👏 I still fly FS Labs Concorde in P3D v3 But as it’s no longer for sale new pilots can’t experience flying it. Such a shame. Hopefully FSL will create a new version when time permits. Ray (Cheshire, England). June 8, 20205 yr Moderator Just now, HighBypass said: I bloody well hope not! I'm sure you know I was being sarcastic. What did annoy me was removing a BA Concorde from the main road entrance to Heathrow and replacing it with an A380 and not even in BA livery. 😏 That aircraft hasn't got many years left.
