Playing with fire, guys! Dont fix what's not broken nor be the 1st to fiddle.. No rush, let others try first!

I've taken ownership of inaccessible folders in Windows 10 already. No issues.

Question about windows10

Do you guys use the Home addition or the Professional addition.  I believe when I bought for laptop there were two version.

Starting to gather all information to buy new system now

Avoid the Home edition. Buy the Professional or Enterprise license.

Nothing wrong with the Home Edition, certainly for non-business use. I've traditionally always gone for Pro versions of Windows until Win10, but saw no advantage whatsoever in going above Home this time round. I shouldn't think there are many corporations installing a flight sim on their machines! Unless  that's their business of course!

Stick with Win10 Home, you'll be just fine.

I've been completely put off buying this now, having experienced the joke that is the Microsoft Store.  I decided to go for the XBox Game Pass option as a sort of try-before-you buy, just to make sure my hardware was going to be up to it, etc.  This requires you to install the XBox Beta app, which seemed to download and install OK the first time I tried it. When I tried to preinstal MSFS, it sat there for a very long time saying "Preparing, 0%" before eventually failing with a hex code of 0x00000001 (could it be more generic?).  So I tried to install something else, to see if it was just Flight sim that was the problem.  After idly flicking trhough the catalogue I chose No Man's Sky, which also failed the same way but with a different error code.

After a day of troubleshooting and various uninstalls/reinstalls of the XBox app, and the Windows store itself I'm still no further down the road.  The XBox app is currently downloading at a rade of 10kb/s.  If I leave it a few hours it'll finally succeed but the problem with installing Flight Sim remains.  As does Nomanski.  so I tried another game at random, this time landing on Zoo Tycoon (I know,I know, it was just for testing purposes, OK?).  Four hours later it had managed to download maybe 100 megabytes of the 9 gig install.  I have a 150meg connection and a similar sized title on Steam takes no more tha a few minutes.

What's more it won't let me cancel.  With a bit of faffing I can eventually cancel all downloads and uninstall the apps, only to find they starty up again in the background and won't permanently go away!!!

Somebody posted in this thread that you have to allow access to your location so I have but it's made no difference, and anyway, why should I have to?  If I don't want them to know where I am that's my business.

Certainly not going to fork out for the Premium Deluxe unless it's a standalone application.

Back to FSX for me, I think...

Does anybody know if you can get updates with the CD-Version from Aerosoft? Or can I get updates only with the download-version from Microsoft?

If you install the game from the Aerosoft DVDs, the first time you run on release day, but it will go online and download all needed updates. It has to... what you will get on the DVD now is not the finished product. Much (but not all) of the core content is probably there, but a lot of stuff is still in active development, and will be for the next month.

If you had read Aerosoft's announcement, you'd have known that once installed, all updates will be automatically streamed to your computer when you launch the sim.

NO! For the 10 thousandth time just NO!

Oh. But at the german Aerosoft-Shop they didnt write this. Thanks for this friendly notice.

Question... why are there no runway numbers for RW06 at VNLK in any of the preview videos / pictures? Isn't that supposed to be one of the custom-made airports? Every picture I've seen of the field has runway numbers on both sides.

...

You'll find that all the games you're trying to install state that they require "Administrator approval".

I had the same problem, and it's a common issue going back at least 12 months! The only way I got round it was to do a Windows 10 reset (Settings>Update and Security>Recovery>Advanced Startup>Restart Now, then select reset when your PC restarts), but you will have to reinstall your programs (including the Xbox app) and any Windows preferences you previously had. A relatively small inconvenience for me as it's a new PC, but a big issue for others.

I still had one issue after that, because there were some apps still showing in my D drive (where I install programs) and the Xbox app wouldn't let me change the install folder from C to D for that reason, so make sure you manually uninstall anything in the folder you want to install to (unless of course you are installing to C anyway).

I can live with that in the short term as I will be replacing most of the PC's hardware before I buy MSFS. But beware of that otherwise.

The issue seems to me to be related to the Gaming Services app as that didn't install until I did the above.

At least for me, the Microsoft Store app seems to download much faster. I tested it by downloading a random game and I even got a download speed faster than on Steam. I haven't tested the Xbox App yet.

I should add that I'm on a 38mbps connection but only get a 3-45 mbps download speed from either the store or Xbox app. Shockingly-bad. If it's going to be like that on August 18th, I'll still be downloading when MS announce MSFS2020's successor!

Off the top of my head I seem to remember them mentioning 50 megabits per second as an optimal download speed for using the SIM

Yes*, but this is just trying to download/install a game (or sim) onto my PC from Windows' 2 platforms of choice, very different to streaming scenery/weather whilst running MSFS.

*50 is Ideal, 20 recommended, 5 minimum, so I should be comfortable enough in-sim.

Over the last few days I think I have probably read nearly every post in this thread. Sad I know, I should really get a life but I am retired from the time consuming activity of having to work for a living. For what it’s worth I’d just like to say a few words about my take on the new release. Just over 5 years ago I moved out of my family home and into a small flat on my own here in Wales UK. I was suffering from an illness that left me with both physical and mental challenges. I decided to embark on a project in order to aid my recovery and decided to build a flight simulator as a long term project. At the time of making this decision I had absolutely no idea of the enormous amount of work, time and money that I was about to commit to this project and was totally unprepared for what the next 5 years had install for me.

To cut a long story short, my physical problems were a handicap in actually building the structure/shell itself but the mental problems of memory loss and brain fog and lack of concentration made it extremely difficult to absorb new and sometimes very technical information, resulting in me having to repeatedly reread articles and info many times.

But that’s a personal challenge. More relevant to this thread is the challenges we all face in building flightsims and cockplts in general. I had dabbled with flight simulation briefly, many years ago before FSX. Everything was totally new to me, the software, the pc hardware and all the flight gear etc. It was a steep learning curve. I went from FSX boxed set to FSX Steam to P3D v3…v4. One large 48 inch screen to 3 monitors, changed to a 2 seater cockpit, added three more monitors for avionics/flight instrument using Air Manager, added 2 more side windows in the cockpit. Of course this needed another networked computer to handle the extra monitors and all the other software eg Active Sky etc. And on it goes. Very familiar to all of you I’m sure.

The point I’m trying to ultimately make is that it’s all a tremendous amount of frustrating work. Anything worth doing always is of course. I’ve spent all this time and I’m still struggling to get decent frame rates, integrating all the different software, scenery packages etc. So when I hear people Hmmming and Aaahing over whether they should pre order or not or whether they are going to wait for a while to see what the reviews are going to say or even what is the correct name for the sim, or I don’t trust Microsoft, I think offensive initials not allowed!

Stop The Paralysis of Analysis

I’ve just ordered the boxed Premium from Aerosoft. I’m want the box with the cover and the book, even though it’s basically aimed at beginners. I’m from the baby boomer generation, I grew up with vinyl records and albums, I still have some treasured collectors albums but I want to embrace the future of flight simulation and if I’m going to spend time in this field I may as well start immediately with the launch warts and all and get familiar with it as it develops. Of course there will be problems but I’d rather be sorting them out than struggling with an ageing sim that is going to be left behind by what is going to be a game changer in the flightsim and gaming world despite any inevitable market hype that that accompanies ANY product launch by ANY company.

Just Go For It!

I’ d like to thank the forum members for all the help their posts have given me over the years. I apologise for not recognising them but they are too many to mention and I was not able to post at the time because I was not a registered member.

This could be an issue with your ISP and the CDN (content delivery network) Microsoft is using. I've had trouble before downloading from Apple's App Store, for example, and it turned out to an issue with the connection on my ISP's end. You might try searching to see if anyone else in your local area is having similar speed issues with the Microsoft Store.

50 Mbit is 6 MBytes per second roughly. Is this enough? Other sims read 100 MBytes per second and more off SSD.

Is there enough ortho data for flying low and fast?

What if I switch to outside view and do a fast 360 degree pan?

To be clear: I preordered already and hope my questions will be answered positively on August 18.

I'll put it this way, my previous internet speed came to a round 90 megabits per second. After being in the alpha for a month or so I upgraded my internet service 2 it's current 500 megabits per second speed.

Some will say that's Overkill, but I like having the extra Headroom. Just in case.
