The Phenomenal Weather System in Microsoft Flight Simulator!

Featured Replies

It might just require some fine tuning in how the weather impacts the flight model. Sometimes it takes only one bug to throw the entire thing off.

With 20 years of real world flying experience, I assume you have flown a lot of different types of planes from GA to transport category airplanes along with all sorts of weather.

You are assuming wrong. But my personal flying experience isn't the topic of this thread anyways.

Would be nice to be able to change the date and keep live weather.

No sometimes during a long Canadian winter I want to fly in summer, daytime with real weather on Vatsim.  Totally not realistic but want to see some green.

I don't know what particular feature of my psychology informs this, but my thing is that I have to fly in real weather. Just can't take presets at all! In Xplane that caused a problem because of it's permanent summer and lack of decent scenery for most of the world. It was only remotely realistic to fly in Orbx sceneries in the northern hemisphere for the spring / summer months.

One of the GREAT things about MSFS is viable scenery for the globe, meaning even if it doesn't immediately solve the permanent summer of the textures, we can at least enjoy southern hemisphere flights when it's winter up north. In fact it's actively encouraging me to explore new parts of the globe. word not allowed, forcing me too!

It needs the Active Sky historical weather feature, where the weather matches the date you have loaded in sim,  so it's still real, just not current conditions.

It looks pretty good to me. To complete the effect though they need to have the mouse cursor randomly jump up or down a bit when you reach for a button or switch.

Has anyone seen if the precipitation changes from rain to snow as you climb above the freezing level?  This is something that really bothers me in the current sims.

I'm curios about this as well. I know it can change in real time with the air temp slider.
