Why not call MSFS an early access game?

But these show a perfectly composed world that starts to fade when watching the stuff made by "real" users...

Did you see a final version, what will be released on 18. august? Or do you know, that there will be missing some of functionalities, what ASOBO promised for release?

I would’ve called it an early access flight simulator but I like to actually use it like one.

I'm not getting the game until around Christmas. I always thought it'd be a fall release game anyway & whilst what I've seen looks amazing, i can also tell it needs more time.

It's missing features i expected at launch like helicopters/gliders & at least one military plane of any kind, popular parts of the world i'd use could do with improving & it'll inevitably need a lot of bugs taking care of.

The added bonus of waiting will mean having many 3rd party aircraft/scenery to choose from, the hotas system i want doesn't release for another couple months anyway & i'll be able to (hopefully) upgrade from my 1080 to one of the new nvidia's.

"Early access" is just another term for "Oh please, user, pay full price and beta test this half-done app." MSFS is far beyond that condition and isn't missing any key features. And don't start ranting about VR, because most people don't use VR.

..or it's our bank account is low and we need more funding to continue

Half done!?  That's pretty advanced for early access. 😄

I EA'd Kerbal Space Program back when it was $7. Back then there was no telemetry beyond altitude and speed, so you'd have to hand-circularize orbits by watching when the altimeter stopped going up, and there was no joint stiffening so the rockets wiggled around like noodles when they flew. Oh, and if you landed on the other side of the planet, you blew up. There was no moon, much less a solar system. No EVA's. No progression tree. No science equipment. But $7 for the amazing product that game became  -so good that NASA partnered with them to design missions? Best value I ever got out of a game.

Anyway, early access gives you cheap up-front seats to a vastly incomplete game. If they'd EA'd MSFS it would have been an airport, maybe two, probably without textures, one plane that may or may not have flown, etc etc.

To even hint that MSFS in its current development stage is anywhere close to "early access" shows a wild misunderstanding of the term on the part of OP.

My 23 year marriage should still be in early access.

I, on the other hand, have very modest expectations. I see MSFS 2020 as a significant step up, but it's a framework for addon developers to work with. By itself it won't satisfy many simmers for long.

A significant step up? Yes, in the sense that a Tesla is a significant step up from a Model T, or a Model T is a significant step up from a horse-drawn carriage. And electric lights were a significant step up from candles?

...And then hopefully stick around to fix and update it, which  ... MSFS have committed to doing.

To be fair, they have a pretty poor track record on doing that. Look at Flight.

Never buy an xbox game that will be "fixed" 10 years from now, this is pretty much what they promised you, thats not to say its bs, but its not great either. Im not impressed by photogrammetry at all, at first glance it looks cool, but when you start to look for details its terrible, its simply not good enough, and you will hate it.
