Installations Problems - No Help from Microsoft

Featured Replies

I am reaching out to my friends in hope someone can do better than the 2 hours of no help from Microsoft Support.

In July, I pre-ordered MSFS 2020 and recently the payment was secured by Microsoft.  After reading about some issues from AVSIM users regarding download and install of the small 200mb file, I decided to make sure mine was good for the game installation next week.

Long story short -- I cannot get anything to happen when I click on the INSTALL/PLAY link. So I click on the 3 dots and see "install on my devices" . This takes me to this error >>

Where do you want to install?

It looks like you don’t have any applicable device(s) linked to your Microsoft account. To install, sign in on a device with your Microsoft account.

Get more info clicking on this , takes me back to the Microsoft Store and and am stuck in a continuous "catch 22" .  I have confirmed numerous times my device is linked to my MS account and my account states this device is recognized with "no issues"

I have tried everything that users have done to correct their issues in this thread with no luck >>>>

Two calls to Microsoft support and 2 hours later has gained nothing.  First call resulted in the tech running a complete re install of Windows 10 Pro 64.  Second call tech tried to fix and gave up.  He was told to tell me I would have to go to Microsoft Online Support and pull up the community for Flight Simulator help.  Did that and cannot find any help.

I figured if anyone can guide me on troubleshooting further, it would be from my friends at AVSIM.  Thank you for taking time to read this.

Unless you were selected for the beta, you won’t get access to it or even be able to down load it until August 18 , or  17 wherever you are in the world.

Jetline Gravity Series, Corsair 4000D tower, Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Elite WIFI7, Intel Core Ultra 9 285K @ 5.5 GHz 24 Core, 240mm ID-Cooling FX 240 Pro, 64GB DDR5 SDRAM 6400 MHz, 16GB Nvidia RTX 5080, 4TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe Solid State Drive, 1200-Watt ATX 3.0 Gold-Rated Power Supply and Windows 11 Home Edition, Samsung Q70 55" Gaming TV, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, Bravo Throttle Quadrant with Thrust Master Rudder Pedals. MSFS 2020 /P3D v5.4.

That is not entirely true. As far as I know, after you pre-order you are able to download a small installer (its more like 20mb if I remember correctly). Im afraid I cannot help though. I had to go to some login page on microsoft and verify which machine I wanted to install on, and then when I clicked install in the MS Store, it would work.

That's not what I'm referring to.  Everyone that has pre ordered has been able to click on the INSTALL/PLAY button and download a small (approx 20mb file) and then they can go to their list of APPS and see Microsoft Flight Simulator.  I am unable to do that.  Thanks for replying.

Which browser are you using? In my experience, the MS website plays nicer with MS Edge than some other ones. Try that.

I certainly share your frustration.. I had similar problems and got no help from Microsoft. They appear to be clueless about the whole affair.

When you go to the MS store and look at your library, does MSFS show up?

And does it show as installed?

On mine, it says "Launch"

If I click on it, it offers up "Install" but that is bogus if it is installed already.. (a bug I would assume..)

Installed Edge, logged into MS account clicked on my pre ordered MSFS, clicked on the INSTALL/PLAY link -- no error, nothing happens, absolutely nothing 🤬

After a couple hrs I finally got it to recognize my device (PC) by changing my Windows login from local to Microsoft Account (using pin). It still wouldn't install, just hung on endless downloading or something. If you can get your device to be recognized you can also just press the install button (not the three dots), but for me I got an error that way saying "windows update is not enabled". It is enabled, and all updates installed, but no luck. I cancelled my order before being charged, just going to wait and see after the release to see if there are any new fixes. If not then purchase through Steam. EDIT: a google search for the "no device or windows update" problems brings up a lot of advice from MS (not MSFS specific) none of which worked for me or anyone else.

In my MS account I show one DEVICE with my named PC.  Click on MANAGE and shows "no issues found" .  One odd thing I note >>> when I click on Show Details of My device , I see this >>>

Windows 10 Professional (10.0.19041.450)

EditionWindows 10 Professional

OS Build10.0.19041.450

Serial number          System Serial Number

Graphic card            NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

It does not show a serial number .  Does anyone else see this ?

I had to go through this as well... If you are logging into your PC the offline way.. the whole thing will not work.

what a cluster. you did finally get the small install completed on your system though didn't you? I'm beginning to wonder if it has something to do with the free online windows 10 upgrade from 7.
