Opinions on the additional content of Premium vs Standard

I'd be curious to see side by side comparison screenshots of the default vs Premium airports.

The only one I inspected closely was KORD and it was night and day. The problem with the non-hand-crafted airports is that they building sizes are all off, so all the terminals were 5-10 story office buildings. The hand-crafted version is no FSDT KORD, but it has the correct shape, size and colors for the terminals, correctly placed and sized hangars, the GA area is more true-to-life, the control towers are accurate, etc.

I went with the diamond encrusted premium deluxe version for the airports. Most major hubs are $20-$30 add ons. So getting London, Frankfurt, O'Hare, San Fran, etc - places that I fly into every so often, but not constantly, was worth it, without spending the $100-$150 it would cost to add them on individually (at least at P3D prices from top developers)...

I am taking the wait and see approach before I drop the money and just using gamepass.  I had it anyways because of some other games I do enjoy playing but I will buy MSFS outright I am sure at some point probably on a sale.  As for the additional crafts and airports I do want them but I am ok waiting a bit.

With regards to GamePass and then the option to buy the Premium Deluxe version for about £70 in the Marketplace I contacted Microsoft and asked specifucally if I buy the £70 Premium Deluxe in the Marketplace but then cease my GamePass subscription will I still own the whole Premium Deluxe game? They consulted internally at Microsoft and sent me this e-mail which I past verbatim:

QUOTE

I am Salma from the X-box  support service, the Microsoft advocate whom you have been in touch with regarding Microsoft Flight sim, well regarding your question, yes you will still own the game even after the game passs expires. If you have purchased it regardless if it is with a discounted price or not, you already own the game, if the game itself is only downloaded through game pass then you will need the game pqss subscription whenever you want to play it or buy it to own it.

There's even conflicting answers on Microsoft's own board.  Though I'm inclinded to believe the MVP/Xbox Embassador/Volunteer Moderator.

But if I do ever cancel game pass (I use it primarily for my xbox one.), and they try to tell me to rebuy the game, I'll simply point them to this statement from the storefront I purchased from.

"The Premium Deluxe Edition includes everything from Microsoft Flight Simulator plus 10 additional highly accurate planes with unique flight models and 10 additional handcrafted international airports.

Here's the rub, however.

If I buy the stand alone version, I can install that on another computer because I have a link to it being owned in the store.  While I don't think the game pass version would ever "expire" if you purchased the upgrade and left gamepass, I do believe that you would either have to re-sign up for game pass to download again on a new machine or purchase the standard edition.

Analogue 172 was worth it.

Yep.

I initially bought the standard version but soon fell for the little 152 which I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would.

i then had a craving to get the aerobat and the analogue 172 as the 152 visual modelling was so good . Given the lack of payware at the moment I thought the only thing to do was grab the premium deluxe upgrade.

It cost me £70 which is £20 more than if I had purchased the premium deluxe from the start but I’m still happy to get my hands on those 2 analogue Cessnas. It’s not too bad considering the P3D just flight 152 is £28 on its own and I actually prefer the default MSFS version.

I’ve not even tried any of the other aircraft yet but if any are half decent then that’s a bonus. The airports weren’t a factor for me , I prefer payware but KORD might come in handy for a flight up from Champaign, like the old days !

Your Microsoft userid owns the full game if you buy the discounted Premium Deluxe edition in the game market place. Your Microsoft userid can have Game Pass sunscription attached to it or not but your userid will still own the full Premium Deluxe Edition. That userid can play the game on whatever machine it is logged into. It can also play it on XBOX Series X as the game has Cross Platform Support.

That might be a compelling enough reason to get an Xbox Series X.  Especially if I can plug a keyboard and my Hotas or CH flight sim yoke into those USB ports....oooh goodness.  FS2020 on my 50 inch TV in HDR......My oh My.

Sadly you will need xbox compatible controllers which include a hardware chip that authorises the controller for xbox. Even though the xbox has standard usb ports it does not talk to every usb controller. In the Driving Sim world there is a product called DriveHub that acts as a bridge between non authorised controllers and consoles. Don't know of a similar device for flight sims but expect folks are working on one in anticipation of msfs 2020 on xbox series x

So please forgive me for my ignorance, and I can understand your annoyance at having to answer the same question over and over again, but just to be sure. If I buy the discounted version (£87.99 as I have a game pass) from the Microsoft store, and cancel my game pass membership, I still own the game, and will have full access? The only reason I have a game pass is for MSFS 2020, so if I was to buy it outright, there is zero need for me to have a game pass. Come to think of it, there is no other way for me to buy the game outright at full price, while I have a game pass. The only way would be to let my game pass expire, and then pay £109.99. I think I have just answered my own question. Yes I would own it lol 🤦‍♂️🤣😁

Considering you would pay the same money for one aircraft and one airport in payware whereas here you get 10 of each - it was worth it to me.

Aside from which, one of the main aircraft I fly VFR is the steam gauge 172 so it was worth it just to get that one.

Got the deluxe version for the steam gauge planes and the premium deluxe for the aiports. Haven't touched the airliners for more than 5 min...

I have the game pass version and was thinking of buying the normal version since now the game pass price has risen 150% which is insane. But the current game breaking state of the sim after the patch#3 I am not buying until after maybe next patch.

Cheapest I have seen a key for is 45€ from a key vendor and you activate the key at the microsoft store. I am never going to pay a full price for this broken sim.

I still think the sim is amazing value for money. There is so much that is working well and so much that is getting better and better. With the discount offered to buy outright for Game Pass users that are going to cease Game Pass it is even better value. I would go for this for the piece of mind over key vendors. Personally I keep on using Game Pass as I also have three Xboxs, although one is actually sold as I have bought a Series X to replace it and have confirmed purchase from Microsoft. I suspect that the release of MSFS on XBOX is pushing Asosbo to get the sim working as well as possible as, obviously, third party patches are impossible on XBOX - Marketplace or official patches are the only two install routes.

Has anyone actually purchased the discounted version then cancelled their game pass subscription? I too am curious as I am in the same boat.

I am not really bothered for the airliners at present as the FF A320 in X-Plane 11 with Ortho4XP is sublime (Currently at FL380 passing Valencia and I cannot stop marveling at how beautiful the sim looks 🙂 ) however I just love the TBM in MSFS 2020 !

I know there was one person here who has and they lost access to the sim.  Despite whatever it says in the game text box (Which is clearly just a cut and paste job from the standard XBox store description) its just an upgrade in game applied to the sim; since you need to have some access to the sim before buying anything from the marketplace I guess MS has not felt the need to update it or its  not a huge enough problem for them to address.  Either way in the end MS was willing to refund the purchase but not just give out a free standard license.
