August 25, 20205 yr I am tinkering around with my settings and I can't seem to find something that looks good and performs well. Granted, I am only 2 days in but nothing that I have seen so far for me looks like anything that i have seen on youtube or posted here. Am I doing something wrong? The scenery to me looks like it is default and not photo. I have a lot of time to mess around with it since there aren't any good tubeliners yet and that is primarily what I fly. So for those of you experts out there, based on my specs, is there something i should or should not be doing? For example, i tried the specs from Chewwy (knowing his set up is superior to mine, but I thought I would try) and I did a landing challenge in the Alps and it was a major studder fest. If anyone can point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it. Also, I downloaded the newest Nvidia driver and it had a 2020 profile in there and the recommended settings it suggested made the sim look awful. Also, anyone have any sensitivity suggestions for my Thrustmaster T.1600? August 25, 20205 yr Your specs are pretty much mine - I have 1080Ti Give these a whirl. . . https://frondtech.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-msfs-2020-best-graphics-settings/ Worked OK for me. Don't worry too much about tweaking - or worrying it's your hardware - as updates are coming soon which should include further optimisation of the software. A lot of the glitches are in-game. It'll be fixed.

Many of us are experiencing that even with faster and newer hardware. This is hopefully a software issue that will be patched. Your CPU supports Hyperthreading, so make sure that's turned on in BIOS. This is different from P3D, where we wanted HT off. You don't mention what screen resolution you're running at - that will be really important for settings. Definitely check out Will Fly For Cheese's settings... Some quick hits. With a 2070 Super, you can handle higher graphics settings than I can. But you'll probably want to go easier on the CPU intensive settings. The main CPU ones, from my experience, are the quality of the vector data and the two LOD settings (terrain and objects). I started on Medium, and then began to increase many of my graphics settings. The last one is the Render Scaling, but without knowing your resolution, I can't yet opine on that. Lastly, you should open up the task manager and resource monitor and leave them in the background so you can see whether, when you're getting stutters, are you CPU or GPU limited. I'm mostly CPU limited with just my straight 2070. And I'm running at 4k with Render Scaling at 70 or 80. Here's what that looks like... 5800X3D | Radeon RX 6900XT
August 25, 20205 yr I'm running an Intel i5 7400 with an AMD Radeon RX 580. But I can get pretty good performance with some Caveats. 1. 16GB Ram is good, but I've seen FS2020 use more. so if you can add another 16GB you'll limit page swapping. 2. The Sim is VERY CPU INTENSIVE. Often when I load a flight, my CPU is still coping with loading the scenery and detail. If you are starting a "free flight" then don't hit the "ready to fly" button right away, or if you do, let the sim finish loading and then use your POV switch to change "look around" the cockpit. Initially it will be a stuttery mess. Wait until it smoothes out. Then you know that all the scenery and object details have loaded and been calculated by the CPU 3. Adjust your Level of Detail (LOD) sliders (Terrain and Object) The sliders adjust how far out the sim starts swapping out lower resolution terrain and objects for higher. If you think of a bubble around the plane, the slider defines the size of the bubble. Low settings will create a small bubble. This is easier on your CPU because it has to calcluate less data. The trade off is, you'll see more object pop in and more mesh tearing as lower resolution meshes are swapped for higher ones. Adjusting LOD further out, will give you better quality, as the pop in will occur further from your plane, but the outside of that bubble is HUGE and that is a big load for the sim to render all at once. Of course your speed and altitude will also play a factor in this. For the landing challenges, I set them all the way down to 10. This lowers the work load on my CPU and makes it smoother. You'll get pop in and tearing, but that's the trade off. Hope it helps.
August 25, 20205 yr If you check out the review I did, you'll see that your PC specs are better than mine, and I was recording at 60fps via the ATI app, in full screen resolution when making the vid, as well as recording the V/O, and not even to the SSD either, which is known for tanking FPS, but you'll see it was doing okay and looked okay. I mentioned a few tips in that vid concerning how to speed things up, for example, if you don't have a force feedback device, turn off the FF signal, in the sim's options, to reduce the amount of data the sim is having to send down your USB wire. August 25, 20205 yr Here is my 2 cents , TURN OFF FPS !!! Start FS2020 go to Ultra and fly around a bit see how it feels. If it seems to stutter or lag , turn down the graphics a bit till you find that sweet sweet goodness. But Keep the FPS off , Who cares if you not running at 70 fps . Now when VR kicks-in then FPS will be a real thing Have seen so many people with same spec systems with totally different out comes... Best bet just go test it yourself!! I did a test with medium settings in the a320 from MSN-ORD and my cpu was almost at 100% the whole time. Yikes, and that is on medium!? Any suggestions on what could free up cpu? August 26, 20205 yr increase the render # from 100 to 200, than your cpu will not be at 100% anymore, your gpu will be at 100% now Edited August 26, 20205 yr by Gomoto
August 26, 20205 yr Author So do I take it from 100 to 80, or increase to 200? Two conflicting answers! I would think dropping it would be the logical choice, but what do i know?! I am running a similar system and still trying to work out the pauses and stutters but I set my render at 90. I am running a super ultra wide monitor though (5120x1440) and that takes a lot of GPU power and my card is running hard and I suspect that is part of my issue.
