September 1, 20205 yr I am most likely going to get it but not sure if I should wait for the 3rd party cards or just get the founder edition card at launch. What do you guys think? Also there seems to be no mention of a 12pin connector that was mentioned by leaks. I am also concern if this card would even fit in my case too. September 1, 20205 yr The FE cards with the 12-pin are almost certainly going to include an adapter from 8-pins. I have to wonder about sag, though. That thing looks huge! I sure will be tempted to pick one up. Ryzen 9 3950X / RTX 2080 Ti / 32GB DDR4 (3200MHz @ 14-14-14-34)
September 1, 20205 yr Author Maybe we need to purchase a steel beam for added support? lol ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU
September 1, 20205 yr well the size is 12.3" long and 5.4" width. 3 slots required. Surprise is saying only 750W supply required based on the 10900k processor. Not sure if that contemplates overclocks or not. You would have to think it does because why would somebody pay extra for a K model and not OC. Yes I'm buying. But in the past people have told me not to buy a founders edition due to bugs and such. I possibly may look into in AIO cooled one. Now I may be able to keep my RM750x PSU and return the RM1000x I had ordered. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
September 1, 20205 yr Author I think the 1000W PSU is a bit overkill. The founder edition looks the best to me, all the 3rd party cards are downright ugly. I like the clean and minimal look of the reference cards. But like you said, previous FE had bugs and runs slightly slower. But that may not be a noticeable difference really. I don't think vertically mounting the 3090 is a solution since of the new fan designs. So that's probably out of the question. Though they say you want to use about 50/60% of it's stated capacity for max efficiency. Which would make the 1000 attractive. I'm not as caught up on how it looks. I try to keep my computer build neat, but I don't really care too much what it looks like. September 1, 20205 yr Looking forward to reading posts from the early adapters. I'm especially curious about the difference in the memory configurations; the 3090 has 24Gb! where the 3080/3070 has 10Gb. My 1080ti has 11. I wonder if 10Gb will be enough? Will be mostly about what resolution you run? The performance of any of the 3 suggest that any one of these cards will blow my 1080 out of the creek. I skipped the 20xx generation and boy, am I glad I did. September 1, 20205 yr 2080 Ti and 3080 will have similar memory capacities, but the 3080 will have much faster (nearly 50% faster) memory output speeds Ryzen 9 3950X / RTX 2080 Ti / 32GB DDR4 (3200MHz @ 14-14-14-34)
September 1, 20205 yr I'll be upgrading my alienware to the new one with the 3080, maybe the 3090 depending on price.
September 1, 20205 yr 3090 in the UK will be from £1500, AIB board partner cards are all ready showing on the web. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cat/index/sCategory/170667 Raymond Fry.
September 2, 20205 yr Author I'm thinking about getting the ASUS ROG STRIX 3090. They have announced it and it will be using 3x8pin connectors. Does this mean I have to use all 3 of those connectors? Currently I am using 2x8pin connectors on my GTX 1080 card. https://rog.asus.com/articles/gaming-graphics-cards/introducing-geforce-rtx-3070-rtx-3080-rtx-3090-rog-asus/ ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU
September 2, 20205 yr I am currently using a gtx 1060 so I definately need something better for MSFS. €1500 for he 3090 sounds ridiculous, but it is closer to Titan level than a 2080Ti so that might not be so excessive. I will buy either a 3090 or a 3080. When the reviews of VR in MSFS come out favourably that 3090 might be my choice, otherwise the 3080 will possibly be more than sufficient. I just hope my 850 PSU will be sufficient, since it's quite new and I am not planning on replacing it yet. September 2, 20205 yr Sadly I won't be getting that much from selling my 2080Ti after this announcement but, yeah, I will grab a 3090 FE on the 24th. if I am able to.
