As DX12 and 4K displays become more mainstream in the gaming world, I can't imagine that combo being a good seller. Let's hope that the AIB boards will get fitted with more than 8GB to fill that gap. September 2, 20205 yr Yeah very surprised about only 10 Gigs, as I have several games that max out my 8 gigs on my 2080 right now. I read some where board partners may be adding more ram to the 3080 so hopefully that's true, as $1500 for the 3090 is a lot of cash. On the other hand when you have a price difference between 700 and 1500 that's a big gap and my guess is they have a 3080ti card in the works, with maybe 16 gigs of vram and a price around $1000. That would be very tempting. But when will nvidia tell us about that card? Probably after they sell a ton of 3090's first. Six months? It's any ones guess. September 3, 20205 yr I see so many saying that they are glad they skipped the 2000x series or others saying that these people are now justified but I don't get this argument. I have been using the 2080 Ti since February 2019, after upgrading from a 1070 and since then I have been able to max out my graphics settings in all simulators. Obviously there is room for even better performance and obviously the new generation will be better than previous, that was always the case for nvidia GPUs. The 2080 Ti was much better than the 1080Ti, the problem people had with this card was its high price, not its mediocre performance. So yes, someone who skipped a generation saved money which he can now use on a 3000 series card but he also lost around 2 years playing in less graphic settings. It's always a tradeoff. Besides, I see now 2080 Tis being sold around 700-800$ which is around 50% its original price. Its not uncommon an older generation GPU to be sold at 50% when a new generation is around. So nothing abnormal here. This was all expected to happen. Like it will be a 4000 series with +50% performance and some would say glad I skipped the 3000x series for the 4000. Its an eternal cycle of evolution. Besides all that, I agree that the 3000x series is for sure a special case as the performance increase is much higher than previous generational steps. September 3, 20205 yr @ComSimPilot I get your logic except on the 2080ti resale value. The 3070 is supposed to be faster than the 2080ti (Not by much) and sell for $499. The 2080 Ti still has more VRAM (11GB) than the 3070 (8GB) which for the case of flight simulation is certainly important. I will also probably go for a 3090 for future proofing at some point, but on the other hand I can run at vey good fps in nearly all scenarios with my 2080Ti so I am not sure if I desperately need a 3000x series card right now. It certainly hurts to sell a 2080Ti bought 1500$ for less than 500$. September 3, 20205 yr I am so on the fence. I barely get time to sim these days. DCS takes up my sim time (P3Dv5 gets even less, MSFS even lesser), and I am debating to get a software license of an app which is the same price (slightly more) than the video card itself. September 12, 20205 yr I think I will wait till I see a 3080 with 20Gb of Vram arrive and jump on it then. All the reviews will be out by then and I will know if this will be enough or that I will need to get the 3090 . It will take at least 6 months before I get all the parts I need for my sim build so I have some time after the first wave of cards are sold. Since I will be doing 4k I want a balanced system and am willing to wait to get that result! September 13, 20205 yr I'm pouncing on the 3090 as quickly as stock levels allow. I'm gpu limited on 4k on msfs with an over clocked 8700k. September 13, 20205 yr Moderator @ComSimPilot, the big thing about the 2080Ti was Ray Tracing. Does either P3Dv5 or MFS support Ray Tracing? If either does then the 2080Ti would still appear to have plenty of life left in it. I have no plans to swap out my 1080Ti. I've only had the PC with it installed for 2 years. No plans to buy MFS until it comes out of beta. Will only buy P3Dv5 if FS Labs announce a 64-bit Concorde for that version. Ray (Cheshire, England).
