Parking Brake Issue

See if the same think happens if you use the keyboard to apply brakes.  Maybe certain controllers spam the program and the program see's it as a stuck key.  That's why you wouldn't see the parking brake enabled.  It's not.  The "brake" command is still being spammed to the program even though you are not pushing the button.

I bet you could simply hit the space bar or another button on the joystick and continue to move without parking brake.  Any input from the keyboard or controller would break the stuck key condition and clear the spamming of the brake key.

Of if that doesn't work tap the brake key on the keyboard, that should also "unstick" it.

  • Sorry to butt in. How many of you have kicked the habit of pressing both toe brakes to release the parking brake? I'm getting there but it's so easy to forget and revert to 'the old way' Carry on

From an earlier part of the thread the parking brake was disabled from the keyboard.

Using the A320, release parking brake as normal, increase throttle, the plane behaves. Stopping with either my pedals or keyboard it is not possible to move forward again when released and throttle increased.

Watching the movement of the plane's pedals is fine and the parking brake handle does not move.

This is a follow on and update.

I am experiencing, for all planes, a braking/throttle issue. When I release the parking brake and increase the throttle the plane does not move, when at full throttle too.. Release it a second time and it thinks about moving. When taxiing and having to hold or temporarily stop, it cannot move forward again. Now I have profiles for all my controllers, single, 2 engine, 4 engine. I have deleted the binding for the parking brake from the keyboard. I have tried with all controllers at default. The problem seems to be more important since the last patch. I have reinstalled MSFS, but nothing has changed. All assistance welcomed. Thanks.

I experience the same behaviour. I have mapped the parking brake toggle to a key-combination on my MS Sidewinder joystick - and, exactly as you say, need to release it twice. At the first occurances I thought that maybe I had initially pressed the key too lightly, but that is obviously not the case - I can repro the problem with each flight and on each aircraft.

Have the same Problem since day 1. Also reported  this issue to the devs.

Glad I'm not alone with this.

Have logged this with Zendesk and received a confirmatory email.

It does spoil the smoothness of the sim, especially having landed and the taxi becomes a struggle, let alone moving off a stand, gate, ramp and on the runway

I have now heard back from Zendesk and directed to the FAQs for how the responses are dealt with - Zendesk is just the third party handling the queries that may be bugs. It is now entered as solved and may show up in the next patch, depending on the workload and importance - i.e. it's not going to break the sim!

If, after the next patch the issue is still there, I can make a follow up linking my original report, so that it is not duplicated.

I've had the same issue. I have to restart the flight to get it to work again

I also noticed that the parking brake will not disengage when you push the brakes on your pedals. That is a functionality that is definately missing.

Well... I think I solved a very similar problem. Don't know if it's the same than yours, but It may help.
1) My problem had the same aspect as yours: press brake with pedals, when the plane has stopped, try to move it again and the brakes were still applied. Then parking brakes on and then off and the plane moves again.
2) I disconnected my T-Rudder pedals and repeated the man only with keyboard: No problem
3) Checked my T-Rudder pedals with"Game devices" in Windows and Surprise!: The center point of the pedals was in the middle... thats the problem. It must be in the lower right corner.
4) I Recalibrated the pedals: Problem gone.

Not sure if it's your case.
Good Luck

I have my parking brake set to a toggle switch on my Bravo throttle.   I was having the same issue as you.  The toggle would not set the brake or worse, it would act intermediately.   After taking a close look in the cockpit view I noticed if I switched the toggle slowly the pedals woiuld vibrate in either the "parking brake on" position or the parking brake off position.  If I clicked the physical switch "quckly" it worked every time.  I think this has to do with how Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 keeps sending multiple inputs over and over again.  This will also mess up setting things like the heading bug. It makes it move in incriments of 10 instead of ones when certain switches are turned on.

But for now, I can use this "quick flip" of the toggle switch to overcome the problem.  Try pushing the button faster and watch how it reacts to the pedals or virtual switch on the cockpit panel.

Martin -

A while back I posted what I did as a workaround to this problem in your "Houston, we have a problem!" thread. I've cross-posted it below in case you didn't see it. I currently use my parking brake as my brakes by mapping it to a button on my yoke. Not great for tight turns, but it stops me.........

--------------------------------------

Made a bit of progress in my issue of planes not moving down the runway after application of full throttle. Based on what I read In another group, I removed the bindings for my left and right brakes AXIS and changed them to left and right brakes (NOT the axis). Although I now no longer have brakes (not sure why), I've been able to take 15 flights with no problem in taking off or getting the plane to taxi after coming to a full stop!  Before this my plane wouldn't budge 9 out of 10 attempts. I'm trying to figure out what this means, but am enjoying flight again! Prior to this I'd disconnected all my peripherals one-at-time with no positive effect and I checked for duplicate assignments with the wheel brakes and parking brake. Didn't see any problems with overlapping assignments. Not sure I'm any closer to understanding what the root problem is, but maybe the AVSIM braintrust can offer some suggestions.
