September 11, 20205 yr So photogrammetry is really nice from 1000’ up. I’m wondering, though if there might be a way to set a photogrammetry exclusion maybe 1/2 mile to 1 mile around airports. On approach and on the ground the results are just not cutting it. I’d rather see AI generated structures. Chris
September 11, 20205 yr Nicely said. It's awesome until it isn't. A small airport in the middle of photogrammetry just does not look good at all on the ground.
September 11, 20205 yr yup was hoping the next patch notes mentioned it. they sadly did not. SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.
September 11, 20205 yr There's two issues in my opinion... Draw distance and quality. They both need fixing and optimizing. There has to be a way to exclude trees and foliage from the photogrammetry ai process and then go back and insert the normal non photogrammetry trees. I'm not talking about like what they do now by trying to cover up the blocky photogrammetry trees...I'm talking about only having the ai trees. That would solve half the problems.....in my opinion. September 11, 20205 yr agreed, I'm landing in random strips around Clearwater Florida tonight and I'm thinking something is up with my connection or something. All the trees and structures close up look like melted chocolate teapots. Thomas Derbyshire

September 11, 20205 yr You all act as if you were discovering this just right now. Have you not used Google Maps before? Photogrammetry has its limits. It is perfect until you get too close. But that's fine. A higher resolution would take the memory requirements off the chars.

September 12, 20205 yr The problem is that you can't selectively turn off photogrammetry. It's simply a mesh that is put over the elevation data. The program has no idea that "thing" is a tree or a building, or anything else. It's all the same. If you turn on Photogrammetry, it's an all or nothing solution. The AI can't tell the difference, which is why some buildings with Trees next to them morph into a unrecognizeable blob. Turning it off isn't a bad option, especially in the "burbs" where buildings are not very large and lack character, but in large cities, the lack of distinctive POI's make the cities look bland and uninteresting. That's because skylines are unique, and we many of us have an idea of what a skyline is supposed to look like. Especially cities that have iconic skylines, or the ones near where we live. Having hand drawn cities would help here, but as I think we see, the actual number of hand textured items, although high quality, is much lower in FS2020 than FSX. So the options are either, turn off Photgrammetry and deal with bland cities until scenery designers can tart them up like they did with Washington DC or London. Or Turn it on, and deal with the imperfections of it. Edited September 12, 20205 yr by wthomas33065

Need to be careful here too ... I recall I turned it off and Sutro Tower in San Francisco ended up being rendered as a giant Skycraper ... so even well "defined" areas without Photogrammetry can be "hit and miss". Real World: MSFS with Photogrammetry OFF: Cheers, Rob. That's true. Without photogrammetry, MSFS will go back to simply rendering autogen. So it will detect a building and it's height, and put a similarly sized "tower" there. That's why in Washington DC, the Washington monument is Just a very thin building, or at Cape Canaveral, the Tower at the launch pad is just a building.
