X52 no longer recognised by Windows 10

Featured Replies

Ran my Site X52 for 5+ years on Windows 8.1 with no trouble. Installed Windows 10 some months ago (fresh install, new drive) and that was fine for some months. Then came MSFS Beta and it's insistence that I lower my expectations of what I expect my firewall (3rd party) to do. Next my computer slowed down (slower to reboot, start up etc). Then I started having trouble with my X52 losing its connection but managed to fix with re-installing the Site driver. Yesterday all fine, Sleep overnight, today nothing. Have jumped the hoops with reboots, re-installing Saitek driver (doesn't see it when I plug the USB cable in) and trying to update the driver etc. Nothing works.

Oh, and it seems that my 3rd party firewall has also died along the way and Microsoft re-enabled it's own firewall in the process. How does this even happen? And yes: virus/malware scans are clear.

No X52, no flight simulator. 🤬

(Probably the wrong section, but hoping somewhere somebody has some useful info)

Had this myself. I unplugged it and restarted the sim. When plugging it in after having started the Sim I got asked about if I wanted to revert to defaults for the X52. Choosing yes fixed it. However you should make a copy of the profile because it has a tendency to disappear again.

Extremely annoying, I know.

Richard

It's not a case of (not only) Flight Simulator not seeing the X52, Windows itself doesn't recognise it (any more).

It seems like its a common problem, but following the dozen or so 'solutions' out there has brought be no closer to solving the problem. Exploring replacing the X52 with something else (I only use a few of its buttons plus the throttle axis; everything else is assigned to my CH system) but the only hardware available to me to buy is another Logitech (associated to Saitek) throttle quadrant ... and its going to spoil my day to buy that and find the same problem.

Daft question... But have you searched the Logitech site for recent drivers ?

If installed, use Control Panel and right click on the x52 which is under "Devices" and go into Properties.

From there you can set deadzones etc.

Then you need to have the main Logitech driver autoboot with Windows. The programming software will come up when you double click the icon in the system tray...lower right.

Some peeps never used the software but FSUIPC instead in P3D etc. but I have not tried this yet as there have been teething problems with Simconnect etc.

Good luck.

P.S. My Saitek Yoke and quadrants all work fine.

@Gabe777 Yes I do have the current driver from Site/Logitech. Windows no longer lists the X52 under Devices – in the past (few weeks) I had managed to coax it into life (and managed to get it to list under Devices), but no more. I get a USB error when connecting the X52 USB cable (and attempts to update that driver have all been unsuccessful). Right not the whole X52 (HOTAS throttle and joystick) is simply a paperweight. Using the tiny, and awkwardly placed, throttle axis on the CH yoke.

This is clearly a Windows problem. And I suspect it is the recent update that *ed it up.

It is...😉

Try this...this may help...

Download latest drivers and when prompted to plug in x52 pro go to Device Manager.

Find the USB symbol with a triangle /red exclamation mark. Right click and choose to Update drivers.

Select the option that doesnt automatically update drivers. Instead select the USB driver to install yourself.

Select generic usb.

Thanks: I have, and I have managed to rid Device Manager of the exclamation mark, but the X52 does not list under Joysticks (so it's there ... but still not visible to any games).

OK, did you try and re-boot without the joystick connected? I know , sounds stupid.

If not, unplug the X52 then start the sim.Wait for it to be completely launched.

Shutdown the sim.

Plug the X52 back in.

Then restart the Sim.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I have tried those. 😕

This seems to be affecting lots of different controllers.  I have an older CH FlightStick Pro that has always worked without any issues.  When FS2020 came out and installed i started having intermittent problems.  Sometimes it works and and sometimes it does not.  Usually a reboot solved the problem.  However for some reason starting this morning no matter what I do its not working.  Win 10 says device is working properly in device manager but both FSX and FS2020 no longer even show the device.

No problems here with my 2006 vintage Saitek X52 Pro in Windows 10.  Just finished a MSFS flight around Kenai Fjords in Alaska and everything about my 'stick worked perfectly.  BUT...years ago I found that its USB chipset, at least in the one I own, is incompatible with USB XHCI...period!  Even though XHCI "supports" USB 2.0, plugging my X52 into such a XHCI port always hung my computer.  I ended up buying a pci-e adapter card which sports a USB EHCI chipset years ago, which solved that incompatibility problem.  Thankfully that card works fine in my new 10700k build running Win10 Pro, using the latest logitech supplied X52 Pro drivers.

Ah man, that must be frustrating!

There are two parts that trouble me: a) Windows disengaged my third-party firewall and enabled its own firewall, and b) the X52 has been working on Windows for months on the same USB port (then it started needing restarts and driver re-installs, no nothing).

If Microsoft wants to sell Flight Simulator software then their OS department needs to ensure that the hardware/controllers can function within the software environment. 🤨

Did you find a solution, lupedelupe ? I just bought a second-hand x52 as christmas present and I might be having a similar problem to yours. The thing is my throttle has a USB port to plug in, but the joystick has a PS/2 port which I've never used before. Either the Saitek PS/2 protocol (apparently proprietary doesn't work with my PC, or I have the same problem as you. Either way only the throttle's input are taken into account and the joystick doesn't show up on the device list.

I had a problem out of the blue with my x52 pro. One day I plug it in and I get a BSOD. The fix was to end up deleting a file. I think it was saiH7xxx.sys. I think a recent Windows update had caused the problem. No idea if this might have impacted the OP.

The PS/2 port of the 'stick should be plugged into the base of the throttle, resulting in both devices being driven by the single USB port connection.  The driver controls it a one unified device, as will flight sims.  The flip side of this is that the throttle can be used with a totally different 'stick, which lots of people do.

I posted earlier about needing a specialized USB 2.0 I/O extension card, which was true for my now retired Z87 build. Turns out the USB chipset on my Z490 mobo has no problems dealing with my X52 Pro's USB interface directly.  I can even plug it into a USB 3 port and everything works fine with the latest win 10 Logitech drivers.
