Worse Performance

Featured Replies

After the Patch. my FPS is worse....my theory is that the patch addressed folks with older CPU's who were CPU bound. I have an I7-10700 but with a 1660ti card. Was great in the Beta and release versions. Now my GPU is 98% when the CPU is 14-20%.  in urban areas like NYC, I'm starting to get from low 30's to a 14 FPS slideshow.

So, I swallowed my pride and shifted from High settings to MEDIUM.  FPS back in the 40's and smooth cockpit movement. The subjective quality is nearly the same.

I'll save HIGH for scenic multiplayer flights where it matters.

What resolution are you playing at?

7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

Your CPU and GPU usage are as it should be now, the game seems more optimized in medium settings with your hardware now, do you know what your Cpu and Gpu usage was before the patch in high settings?

Relying on the preset ("High") settings won't cut it in MSFS. You need to understand what a setting does (does if affect CPU or GPU) and tune each setting accordingly to load your system. There are a lot of guides out there. Thinking modern CPU's are at a disadvantage now is, sorry, just silly. Your CPU should BLAST through NYC at 40+ FPS, looks like you over overloading your GPU.

Currently giving X-Plane 12.10 a spin on Shadow PC. 10 years with X-Plane now, since 10.20

My framerates are also half of what they were prior to the patch!  I admit they weren't great before since I have eye candy cranked up @1440P, but at least they were tolerable (avg. mid-30s fps).  Now it's a choppy slideshow dropping to 10-15 fps sometimes and also now not logging flights in Developer mode. Not happy with this patch at all!  MS/Asobo should not be forcing us to install patches.  In addition, we should be able to revert back to the previous patch version if we're experiencing worse performance or problems.  Oh well, hopefully they'll get plenty of feedback on this forced-patch issue.

Yhh same here... i was pretty happy before and now those horrible stutters of main thread. @James Callan i got half of your CPU (5820K) and the patch made it much worse for me as well.

OP here:

running 2560 x 1440, 144hz monitor.

pre-patch 30% cpu, 85% gpu.

now 15-20% cpu, 95% gpu.

I know I need to upgrade card, but why worse after the patch?

Well my guess is they started messing with CPU cores behaviour and that screw things up.

Update to my post-patch framerate loss comment

Playing around with different settings I found that my fps drop was because I've had the sim in windowed mode for convenience while developing my local airport scenery.  Apparently the patch doesn't like it. So swapping back to fullscreen mode restored my fps. YIPPEEE!!! 😁😄😊

hahah this if funny, sorry.

but i see so many issues are caused by the users themselves.

AMD 3900x w. 32gb of RAM and 2080ti. Sim on M.2 Nvme-disk. Performance better with patch no doubt. Rock stable. No crashes or malfunctioning avionics or anything.

I hate to say it again...

But...

If you have *any* mods installed, remove them. If you've changed *anything* to your config files, restore them.

The vast majority of folks that report worse performance have something changed or modded they haven't restored.

Sorry if you've already heard that.  But it is often some little mod or tweak people forgot they did.

That's it I ordered I7-10700K to replace my 5820K F*** it all. It that won't solve my "limited by main thread" stutter ill be crying.
