Aside for Dillon, has anyone else purchased FSXCENERY KPIE?

I keep it Corporate and GA at this time

Me too, I have enjoying the freedom of going whatever - no thought in the back if my mine but this airline doesn’t fly here - and the challenge and variety of smaller fields.

Can't understand why anyone would spend a dime more than what your already paid for the software.

I might be a sucker, but it only applies to the airports I’m familiar with... my hometown air airports, knowing what KTPA looks like in reality  and landing there in its current state kills immersion.

But if it’s a new to me airport, like many smaller field in some other state then it’s not as jarring since I’ve never been there.

But I drive past Tampa Executive almost daily.

That’s the difference...

I fondly remember a stay at the La Quinta Inn at Tampa Airport in 2015, where I had too many beers and as a result was convinced that Danny Trejo is hiding in the closet.

😂 many people has had drunk crazy ideas about Danny trejo .

@DJJose - I just picked up PIE and SFB from PC Aviator... thanks for the link!

PIE is great re. airport boundary and layout- textures on the buildings are just very ok... hopefully they will update as they become familiar with the SDK... I've seen lots of freeware as good in this sim... will check out SFB... but so far I'm liking the runway textures.... airport boundary road and detail are good... but it's the first payware in MSFS I'm underwhelmed by.  The T-Hangar cluster is particularly lackluster.

Your shots of SFB leave me hopeful that they will revisit PIE very soon... they seem to be able to do much better than this.

Fingers x'ed for a sorely needed update.  The charity makes it more palatable...

I purchased the new release of FSXScenery's Sanford Florida airport today.  If I didn't know it was payware I wouldn't know.  Nothing stands out over the MSFS included KSFB.  I could probably find something better if I had the default and the payware side by side, but why even make the comparison.  Maybe they will up their game down the road.

They are not FlyTampa or FSDT, but IMO it's so much better than the default. I doubt we will ever see any updates.

Sorry guys, I honestly like KPIE & KSFB much better than the default.

Maybe they should be priced at $5.

MSFS

I concur... @VirtualSim’s Plant City has way more depth of detail and ambiance AT $5... Will check out Sanford tomorrow, but after Ray’s comments I’m not hopeful. It’s like an AFCAD instead of Orbx... if that translates here.

Unless from the big guys... I will probably wait for the US update before spending more $... a lot of the freeware @DJJose has pointed me to was brilliant.

FSXScenery  (and I owned a ton of them....) was OK as a last resort in P3D. They did airports that weren't being covered  by the major developers and the cost was reasonable  in the low teens ($).  Even in P3D, they looked very FS9  - FSX like, but were better than the default.  I had to rework every taxiway designation and parking location for KCMH, and imagined most the others weren't correct either, but they weren't my home airports.  This time around, I won't go the FSXScenery route.  The bar for textures, lighting, and general immersion has been raised, and as mentioned some of the freeware is better, and so far the price for top tier projects are now  in the range of what these airports used to cost in P3D.  Don't hold your breath, thinking that the quality will come in later updates,  I don't believe any of the P3D/FSX airports ever saw an update...  and as I stated, I owned lots of these in P3D.  I wish the developer all the best, and do hope they up the quality and attention to detail in their MSFS products, but I'm staying  clear this time around....

@bszuch

I think you’ve summed up this developer’s sceneries perfectly... FS9 level. I have learned my lesson- caveat emptor!

I only bought one FSXcenry for P3D v4 and that was KPIE. The airport removed the AG from around the PIE area and the AFCAD was so bad that AI would not taxi. I had to fix both issues. The night lighting was as not very good and it came with poor fps to go along with it. I had to fix that too. I never bought another airport again from FSXcenery for P3D v4, until yesterday.

After Dillon posted the thread, I began doing some searching. I saw that FSXcenery released KPIE and KSFD, but I was very hesitant to buy. I read a review on simmarket and some buildings were elevated at KSFD and Dillon started a thread where he could NOT get KPIE to show up in the sim. I asked myself, could this be user error?

Since I'm from the Tampa Bay area, I have to have as many airports as possible in this region. The more I looked at the pics of KPIE & KSFB, the more I wanted to try them. I took a chance and I'm glad I did. I now have a better layout of these airports, improved lighting, more buildings, more objects, more animations, more airplanes, more eye candy. It's now much more pleasurable to visit these airports. I've already gone to both multiple times and have gotten enough value to justify what I paid. I even sent the dev an email requesting that he considers enhancing KBKV & KSPG.

They are not at the level of ORBX or Gaya Simulations (not even in the same stratosphere) but they certainly are not just AFCADS or FS9 quality.

Jose

The same guy that dared to install Aerosoft Daytona X in P3D v4.5 and made sure that everyone knew that it was compatible even when the dev said it wasn't.

@DJJose

Jose- please don't take my less than enthusiastic commentary about FSXScenery as any lessening of my enthusiasm AND GRATITUDE for your efforts in searching out and highlighting new freeware and commercial releases for MSFS.  You have brought me some wondrous locales... and many, many hours of enjoyment.  This one release left me underwhelmed. but all the others have been celebrated enthusiastically.

I say this, to let you know that I for one appreciate your diligent efforts, and look forward to logging in to "see what Jose has for me today".

Orlando Sanford, Spaceport, Melbourne, and Daytona Beach are my old stomping grounds. My only hope of getting better scenery for these local airports are guys like these we are talking about. I am perfectly happy to pay $11 for an upgrade.
