Does this scenery look right?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if it's patch related, but I don't remember my scenery looking this blurry from altitude.  I remember things being much sharper before.

Everything set to high or ulta.  LOD set to 150 (though it's just as bad with 200).  Anisotropic Filtering 16x and Terrain Synthesis Ultra.  I have 10Mb Fibre, a 5700 XT with 32GB ram.  Happens anywhere in the world with any aircraft from about FL180 or above.

I've reset my cache since the patch.

The screenshot at this size doesnt show anything out of the ordinary to me.

What does Texture Synthesis do anyway? - I can't see any effect from it whatsoever.

Trust me it looks absolutely dreadful..  How do I upload the image in its proper size?  I hosted it and then linked to it but it seems to have shrunk.

Ahah maybe this will do the trick.  Will edit my original post too.  The residential streets just look mushy and grey.  Highway interchanges and airports are blocky.

This thread had a good compare between various settings https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/how-to-graphics-settings-and-performance-guide-8-18-2020/132407 well worth the time to read and tweak to your tastes.  I think ultimately everyone just left it at Ultra since there was nearly no impact anyways lol But I suspect like the Wikipedia article suggests it is how they are mapping the textures onto objects overall.

My oh my. People are spoiled...

This is what I'm seeing.

Lower resolution is apparent, but not egregious.

For myself; at this height and above, I think Asobo would probably be committing programming malpractice to attempt resolutions much higher than this above a certain altitude.

You are correct. It did look much better before the last patch. Asobo have openly acknowledged that they accidentally introduced a bug into the sim that messed with the LOD (Level of Detail). Flying low, things look ok but as you climb out and distance to the ground increases, LOD decreases rapidly around your aircraft. It will be fixed so don't fiddle with your settings, nothing you can do your end will sort it out. This affects everyone. If you previously had your Terrain LOD slider on 100 it will still be there but you have something like LOD25. Taking the slider to the max of 200 will make no difference. Neither will setting Trees to Ultra, which some have suggested.

Don't stress, I'm sure it will be fixed in the next patch.

For me it also looks blurrier after the latest 1.9.3.0 patch. When flying above Japan. Not sure if its the quality of the satellite imagery or what but I doubt it since Japan just had a world update so the quality should be at least decent. I heard that Asobo is aware of the issue and I think it's related to the LOD settings. Although I am running at ultra preset with both LOD slider to the max value of 200. Prior to this patch, things looked much sharper.

Although the photo was taken at 130, it still looks the same at 200, with fewer FPS

But this also places serious strain on your hardware. Going over 100 on the Render Scale introduces a FPS hit that becomes visible in dense areas. Conversely, the Asobo team have noted that the Terrain LOD slider has very little impact on system performance but (when working properly that is) does have a big impact on scenery realism.
