Interesting to see this has come to the virtual world commerce as well. I was a bit surprised that EVGA set the time window to just 5 hrs. 😮

Miss that and you are kicked out of line.  That seems a little aggressive. I am not one of those checking my email every hr!

 

 

Well, my number just came up in the EVGA queue for a 3090...I signed up on the day the cards released (Sep 24th) after I drove 60 miles to Denver only to find that every one of the "in stock now" cards in the initial shipment went to a kid that had been camped in line outside the store for nearly 3 days.

EVGA's policy now gives you 8 hours from the time they send the e-mail, so you have a whole business day to act.

All told, though, it's much better than the e-tail version of a Black Friday mob all clamoring for the "buy" button every time a few cards show up as available.  And they're actively culling scalpers from the queue, too.  Bravo on that one.

 

@w6kdHappy with it?  Mine is still in the box begging to be installed.  I have to make some time this weekend.  

Welllll...UPS sent me a pre-delivery notification yesterday saying it'd be here this afternoon, but the tracker shows it still in Denver, so I'm thinkin' I may not see it until Monday.

Edit: and, as I suspected, no delivery.  And now the tracker is showing a Tuesday delivery.  I'm bettin' on Monday.  Argh.

This is an EVGA 3090 XC3 Ultra (part number 24G-P5-3975KR).

Got it installed about an hour and a half ago.  Initial impression is very good--It's handling 4xSSAA with DL at night like a champ at performance-intensive FSDT KMEM, 8xSSAA in daytime with weather, all on a 4K display...haven't put it through its paces extensively, but it's really eclipsing the 2080Ti in the high-demand scenarios I've thrown at it so far.

Comparing the two cards physically, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 3090 is thinner (2.2 slots vs 2.75 slots), lighter, and only a little bit longer (11.2" vs 10.6") than the 2080Ti, but still a good half inch shorter than my 1080Ti boards.  I was expecting some sort of adapter cable solution for the VGA power, but happily it uses two 8-pin VGA cables just as the 2080Ti did.

Fans are pretty noisy when fully spooled up...but so far I have yet to challenge the card enough to see that happen.  I have the "aggressive" fan curve set in X1 Precision and the fans haven't been above about 55%.

More to follow.  A close friend passed away yesterday, so I'm somewhat mopey and undermotivated today.

 

@w6kd Very sorry about your loss Bob.  Best wishes.  Just got mine in and did a quick test in CVG at night.  The DL there always hammered my system and seems better.  Like you said more to follow.

Thanks guys.  My friend was one of my oldest AF buddies...he spent five years of his life cycling through SAC alert rotations sleeping a few hundred yards away from a fueled-up B-52 loaded with live nuclear crowd-pleasers, then went on to a 34-year career as a pilot at Delta.  He retired just nine months ago.  Really sad.

I've been running a bunch of tests on the 3090 this morning, and you can officially color me impressed.  PMDG NGXu with all the exterior lights on at FSDT Chicago, at night, dynamic lights, 4xSSAA, low ceilings and I'm staying locked at 30 fps (hardware VSync) with GPU at 50% load, temps in low 60s, and fans running around 75% and not audible above the sim sounds.

In a daytime test with low ceilings at Imaginesim KATL, it's holding 30 fps at 8xSSAA at 4k resolution, with temps and loads about the same as the nighttime test at 4xSSAA.

After lunch I'm gonna do some similar tests on P3D v4.5.

I also am impressed so far.  Although a brief test.  I noticed airports that hammered my system with DL seem better.  Like you I prefer to lock at 30hz for the smoothness.  I don't really use msfs much.  But I tried it just to see.  Much smoother also.  I was wondering if I'd regret getting this card.  I don't.  Not to mention I don't need to pay attention to vram at all anymore.
