Too many closed airports

On the original topic of closed airports, yes there are a number of them in the sim, as well as some other oddities.

The best one I encountered was while testing various aircraft for my around the world flight, I'd fly out over the CA desert and just do a 'Direct to' the nearest airport to land after I had all my data collected.  When landing at one location I thought something seemed...off....about the location and layout.  Looked it up on Google Maps and it's a bombing/target practice range.  It has the ICAO code for a real airport (located in the Pacific somewhere) assigned to it in sim, and the text name 'Barstow airport'.  I took some screenshots for a Zendesk ticket but haven't had time to go do it yet.

KLGB has two runways in-sim that they removed 5 years ago to reduce runway incursion incidents and improve safety of operations.  Totally out of date.

They have clearly used some software routines to auto-detect "airports" using AI and it's not all correct.

Thank you for bringing this back on topic.  It seems there are a few of these.  Maybe I should report the one's I've found to Zendesk too

In the Dev Q&A they stated that Update 4 had over 700 airport updates for various items outside of Japan that has been reported to Zendesk.  So that seems like your best bet to get things addressed.

It certainly will take less time for Asobo to correct airport database then for IXEG to implement VNAV which is WIP since 2015 LOL

Well, I think our descent VNAV (climb and cruise are fine) works at least as good as the autopilots in MSFS from what I hear 😂. Well, actually it won´t kill you, so it may be a tad better.

But yeah, I was really hoping for faster progress on fixing that up, so you made a fair point.

Cheers, Jan

Since I learn so good how to use VS flying IXEG there is no problem in MSFS in this respect 🙂 But the way I still think IXEG 737 is the best in all 737 even though as I mentioned I'm no longer in XP domain.

Thanks for the kind words - keep an ear on the tracks and when (ever) we are going to fix VNAV PTH descents to always work reliably maybe take her out of the hangar once more to check it out 🙂

Cheers, Jan

They still have the Alameda NAS, which has been closed since 1997.

Though, TBF, I think FSX did too?

Can someone check if Woodford aerodrome east of Manchester, England is shown as operational please? EGCD I believe.

It was closed back in 2010 and the land is now being used for housing. Historically it was an important airfield. The WW2 Lancaster bomber was built there as was the Avro Vulcan - a Cold War supersonic delta-wing bomber.

Does not seem to be or at leastI could not select it in the flight planner.

I will admit...the first mod I installed for MSFS was Meigs Field.  Killed before its time....

Do they really think the terrorists are using a flight simulator to study their targets when they have satellite imagery in a much more useful format available for free online?

Check out Google maps of Greece - several airports are blurred out....

Wishful thinking Ray. Although a test flight reported reaching 1.04M it's not considered likely that it really did exceed 1.0M.

Point accepted. Max speed M0.96 according to Wiki article. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Vulcan
