Microsoft Downloading/Updating is SHAMEFUL!!

Featured Replies

I downloaded the original with no issues, though it took a long time with the slow connection I had at the time.  I have since upgraded to a faster connection and today's update (1/2 a Gig) took only a few minutes to come down.

I don't think Microsoft is to blame.

Mine was pretty fast.  Off to testing to see if anything meaningful got fixed.

FS2020

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

I have been in this state for 40 minutes. The pc-fs-base...file download goes max to 11% and then goes back to 0% and starts again. I tried earlier and the same happened. Booted my computer, but no help. I only have 50mb connection but everything else is working fine. Measured my connection and it shows steady 40+ mb download speed.

Not sure what to do. Not gonna re-install the sim this year. It took me 24 hours to install. 😀

No anger issues. Pretty happy with P3D if this goes sour.

EDIT: Task manager shows I've downloaded over 3 gigs. Time to give up.

Just a wild guess but the issue may not be the download but the attempt to to write the data to disk. The data is downloading but when it comes to actually writing it to your disk, it is being prevented and thus starts again. Thus, this might be a permissions thing and nothing to do with your internet, based on the install path of the original installation. Even more likely to be an issue if you purchased from the MS Store. I am so, so glad I purchased the Steam option for the permissions issues alone.

Thanks for the tip. I checked the folder and there were some updated files from the same time I first tried to update.

I have never had any DL issues with the Sim. This time, it is stuck in what seems to be a never ending loop. Stuck on DLing the base files. 5 hours in. I have restarted a few times. So frustrating.

This is a known bug since launch. There are tens of people suffering from this at MSFS forum. Some people got it working limiting their bandwidth to like 1 mb, but most of them had to reinstall. Too old for that ****. Time to uninstall and fly P3D.

It seems it is.

First time for me also. Sad, there is no help from MS ATM.

Did you by any chance apply the bandwidth limit in the sim - the data section?

If so - disconnect the Internet to skip the update, run the sim, change your setting, quit the sim, connect the Internet and start again.

It helped in my case. I reported this nasty bug via Zendesk - no response from Asobo. It was reported by dozens of users, very long thread on the official forums.

If this will not help - use NetLimiter to limit you download speed, for some strange reason it helped some people.

Actually, I have limited it in the sim. I will try that. Thanks!

EDIT: Worked! Thank you very much!

Well my update went fast, just some 600mb for the launcher, 2.x gb for the patch and the some 30 kb for the 2 container files incl. procedural buildings japan to fix the tall buildings bug.

which brings me to the point why the title of this post triggered me. Why is it so complicated to update MSFS? 3 semi manual steps to follow, causing irritation latest when you get the step 2 done but still see tall buildings because you do forget / are not reminded to also check your container... just my 2 cents

They could suggest updating Japan buildings in the release notes at which you have to look during step 2 - downloading in-sim update.

Still server issues. They should bring a download package if they can't sort out their update issues.

I download the update in around 3 mins.

But his experience was not 3 mins, was it? You are one of the reasons why Avsim is like it is.
