You think you've downloaded the update.....

Featured Replies

And then it seems you haven't!  Days ago I downloaded what I thought was the latest Oct. update. Didn't seem to take very long. Didn't even pay much attention. Booted up to fly last night and faced a 97GB+ update download. Are these updates divided into segments? I downloaded all night - over 8 hours - still have over half to go. Servers must be overloaded.

I know at least one other person was reporting this same issue on patch day, but most of ours went normally.  The latest patch was not very large.  I noticed I had to reboot to get the sim to recognize the patch which was odd.

I've had that thought myself. This seems to have happened multiple times. Where would one "investigate" this? Other than filing a bug report. Doesn't seem I have any control over this. Open the sim and the download screen interjects...and as far as I can see, there's no way to dismiss/ignore it and start the sim.

^^  Having a separate backup drive, I actually back up the system volume [C] and the simulator folder [M] before messing with it again.  Regards.

Just taking a guess, but are you doing any editing of default game files (not just the community folder but actual files)?  Again, just taking a guess but something like that might cause the sim to think that something changed.

I know there was at least one person in the patch day thread with what sounds like the exact same issue, not sure if they ever figured it out or just sat through the download again.

I downloaded the update and flew for a few hours.  I just opened MSFS 2020 today and the "Press any key to continue"  screen is back again and there are skyscrapers everywhere again.  When I click on my profile icon, it shows that I am on 1.9.5.0.  But it is like the update never happened.  I have not changed anything.

Never run file integrity check on the Steam Edition. It will wipe the whole content folder without warning.

If you have drive space, backup the entire content folder, following each update. I know I do, having learned my lesson 🙂

This would seem to be the issue. I regularly do file integrity checks on Steam after any major download or update! In fact, now that I think back...this seems to have happened after every update (because I always do an integrity check), and I just thought it was the norm! I haven't touched any files. In fact, with the state of this software being so unfinished, I don't even add the freebies. I'm keeping everything basic and accepting only the updates until such time as the devs get this thing to the place it should have been when they started selling it. I did, in fact, back up the base files after my purchase. Anyone who has used the cartel calling itself "Steam" knows that any major download or update through them means an all-day, or all-night (or both) adventure. Still, I have never had to restore anything from a backup. Is this a procedure that is implemented through Steam? Thanks

What do you mean the "Press any Key" is back. It was never gone. If it was, there's something wrong.

you have to update the 2 Japan files in the content manager for the too tall buildings to go away.

Press any key wasn't fixed in this update.

Did you also download the two Japan updates from the content manager? If not then do that too. Then make sure to delte the rolling and manual caches and reboot the sim. see if your buildings are fixed after that.

I am trying to open the Content Manager now and it is not loading.  I thought I read somewhere that the "Press any key" thing was removed in the latest update.

So it turns out that doing an integrity test in steam is wiping out the game and triggering a reinstall 🤦🏿‍♂️. Maybe we should make a sticky so people don't keep posting that the game is reinstalling for no reason

This begs the question - Who is at fault here? Steam. Microsoft?
