3090 in FS

Featured Replies

So, few people wanted some reports when I had this card in.
I have set everything to ultra. I have locked my frame rate using rivatuner to 60fps.
I am maintaining the 60fps pretty much everywhere no matter where I am except major cities where it fluctuates between 45-60. However one thing to notice is the frame time. It’s substantially better. There is odd micro stutter here and there every 5 mins, but I believe that’s down to the program coding itself.

Overall would I purchase the 3090 again for MSFS? Yes! Would I purchase it over a 3080? Yes! The 15% difference may cost a lot, however every 1% or more in fight simulation counts..... especially when we start adding planes and scenery etc..... it has given me headroom for the future, plus when they start making the code more efficient and switch to DX12, there is no Vram worry either.

Resolution on 1st monitor is 3840x1600. And second monitor is bog standard HD. CPU is 9900Ks watercooled at 5GhZ. 32Gb DDR4 3200mhz ram. 3090 gpu.

PS my 2080Ti is now for sale. Just pm me.

Just curious, would you purchase it over a 20GB 3080 for $500 less?  I really think that is the sweet spot of the cards but holy cow two things, #1 I am SO jealous of you right now 🙂 and #2 holy cow $1000 for a non flagship card just eats at me... I haven't been interested in AMD for a long long time but quietly looking over my shoulder at the moment 🙂

Very happy for you, that is an incredible card any way you cut it!  Enjoy!

Thank you for the update!  My new build with the 3090 is currently slated to deliver around the 28th October.  A quick question, did you test at all without the FPS cap?

I would look closely at a 3080 20Gb yes.
But 1.) Will it actually materialise?

And 2.) I am all for the present, I never hold of for the future.

Who knows what can happen 🙂

Haha, you are talking to the guy who traded in his 2019 Motorola Razr for the 2020 Motorola Razr yesterday "just because" so I definitely get it LOL!  If I could have picked up a 3090 in the release debacle I'd probably be right there with you but I couldn't hence admiring you and yours!  Great stuff, enjoy it!!!

I would love to know, so thank you!  My current monitor is capable of 120 hz and I will be curious to see where I might end up FPS wise with my current monitor... I will looking for a 4K monitor, but I have some very specific wants.

Hello,

Sound level is important for me.
Could you tell us you feeling about the noise  your 3090 generates, from 0 (very low) to 10 (really loud)
What about your power supply : 850 W, 1000W ?

Hardly any noise to be honest. On par with my arctic extreme I had on my 2080ti. There is no fan below 40c or so, so it is utter silence. After 40C+ the fan starts to kick in. Even at 80-100 fan, I do not notice it much. My power supply is 850w

Congrats on your new toy.

So, I just briefly tested without a FPS cap. It was averaging around 70fps. The good thing was, it eliminated the micro stutter I had. So, maybe this is best left like this now. Overall 3090 = brilliant extreme performance.

What is your render scaling set to though?

I can get 50-60fps high and 45-50fps average with my 2080Ti if I set the render scaling to 100 but it doesn't look quite "crisp". So I have it set to 130 where I get about 30-40fps high and 25-35fps average.

100. I can set it to around 150 now and the FPS drop around 10-20 from the above mentioned FPS. I keep it at 100 though, cause at 100 at 3840x1600, i I personally find it fine.
Also, to note, I used to have a 2080ti. Now with that card I could also get high ish FPS. However one thing with the 3090 appears to be that the frame time is better. Could be placebo, but, it’s smoother........

Nice - what aircraft are you getting these frames in? My frames normally drop to mid 20s with the 787...the other aircraft fly well though.
