October 30, 20205 yr I live in the South Pacific region, and woke up to read about the new patch drop, and all the issues everyone was having. Feeling brave, I started up my FlightSim PC, and launched MSFS, fully expecting to receive an update notice. Instead, it sails through and I end up at the menu in 1.9.0.5. and runs as expected, albeit on the 'previous' version. I have since rebooted, the PC, checked to make sure MS Store was able to update any other components needing updates, even tried running wsreset as Admin, and still I do not get any warning about a pending update. Could it be that MS have blocked the update for my region until such time as they find a quick fix for the USB caused CTD?
October 30, 20205 yr Maybe they finally came to their senses and pulled it? If they did, I wish I would have waited a day. MSFS

October 30, 20205 yr I had to reboot the system about 4 times before Windows got squared away with the controllers (the sim would not start up). Have not had the issue after that. When Windows alters the controllers, msfs won't load up. The patch forced windows find all the controllers again. After some system reboots, windows was happy and so MSFS was stable from then on. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. I've even updated win 10 to 20H2 and I still can't get the sim to load with my GoFlight throttle plugged in. MSFS
October 30, 20205 yr Really strange : I checked everything after upgrading : no problem, no CTD. Why do some of us have CTD or other problems ? Before upgrading, I emptied my community folder. It could be one reason ... I do not use any "performance tool " it could be another reason ... My computer is not overclocked... Do not know what else to suggest. But reinstalling is probably not a solution. Edited October 30, 20205 yr by ctdlg
October 30, 20205 yr Restarted. Patch available. Dead simulator. DEAR ASOBO: DON'T MAKE YOUR PATCHES OBLIGATORY IF IT DESTROYS THE SIMULATOR FOR MANY USERS. 🤬 EDIT: unplug all controllers: FS starts. Plug them back in: CTD Edited October 30, 20205 yr by lupedelupe

October 30, 20205 yr 2 hours ago, lupedelupe said: Which USB devices? For one, the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. You'll have to consult the official MSFS forums and search through all the posts to find the rest. If the sim is CTD just after the Japan Update splash screen then your controller is causing the CTD. If it doesn't CDT, then you should be okay.
October 30, 20205 yr If you hit the Windows/Start 'Restart' button, it does no good for MSFS. It only helps if you click the 'shut down' button and then reboot the system. And it may take 3,4,5,6 times. This truth were preached by Bob Sticky Church over on the CH controller forum for several years. When MSFS failed to boot after this last update I saw in the control panel Devices and Printers list that the game controllers were not in the same order as they used to be. This was very familiar because I had changed controllers from time to time with earlier versions of MSFS 2020. And back then MSFS would not boot up (CTD). I knew MSFS would probably boot up only after Windows stabilized the order of how it recognized the USB game controllers. So I plugged in all the controllers and rebooted without swapping USB positions again (Shut Down, not Restart) 3 times and there was no more problems since with MSFS not booting up. Had MSFS then not booted up after I did that, then I would have rearranged which USB ports all the controllers were plugged into, and tried again. Eventually it will work. FSX used to do a similar thing, only it would boot up, it just would not recognized some of the controllers. And the solution for that was the same procedure. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
