Which version of the film is best?

Featured Replies

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

The original...by far.

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

The original is invariably the best with most things - a notable exception being Siouxsie and the Banshees cover version of Dear Prudence, which is better than the Beatles original - but the original version of this movie is by far the better one.

Well, I haven't seen the new version but given what I think of contemporary movies and their special effects and sexual content and abominable 5,000 decibel sound I'd have to vote for the original version.  I want to be entertained, not blown away.

Several years ago Betty was given tickets to an animated film called 'Brave'.  We didn't stay long.  The sound level drove us out of the theater never to return.  Are people who go to movies these days deaf?  I want to hear sound, not feel it.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I found a cheap first edition Lost Horizon and it was a startling read. Both movies are on Prime for $3 to rent.

Passengers seated on a flight, drifting off to sleep, wake up and look out the window. Nothing but desolation wilderness as far the eye can see for hours and hours and a silent pilot up front not answering questions.

So I bought the book. Loved the original movie. Haven't seen the remake.

I found a way to enjoy todays movie theaters. First of all, I only go the theaters featuring the big reclining cushioned chairs. I bought a box of soft ear plugs at the drug store and put them in as soon as I get seated. They work like a charm. They block out just enough of the loud sounds but still allow you to hear the full dialog.

I have now seen about half of the 1973 version.  Lost Horizon should NOT be a musical. Except for that it wasn't bad, but the fact that they turned it into a musical ruined it for me. I couldn't finish the movie. I plan to watch the 1937 version tomorrow night, to get the taste out of my mouth; as it were. Blech !

The original is better by far !

Everything is better as a musical. Just look at this:

I'd love to see Arnold or Sylvester tap dancing like Fred Astaire as they are wiping out bad guys.

What an image, tapping and shooting. Good one Noel

On second thought, Sue, I'd make it a trio arm in arm with Liza Minelli in the middle.  We can't leave the ladies out.

I like it. Why Liza Minelli ? I never thought of her as the "action hero" type.

LOL
