Thoughts on PMDG 737 BBJ Performance and Features

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Any thoughts on PMDG 737 BBJ expansion.  All I can tell from their website it has visual interior upgrades.  Is that all it as?

Technically, I fly the 737 NGXu as a BBJ anyway or whatever- you can reduce weight and load up on fuel (even change fuel in mid flight lol).  I don't care about interior cabin graphics.

Is there all this plane has (just interior cabin views) or the flying experience is different? - I am just confused about this expansion.

Thanks

I just dunno; I get a feel that this particular expansion is just pushed out to get some sales in between GFO and MSFS2020.

I think SUV's also pull up to the plane.  I'll be honest, I don't see this one being a must have in any sense of the word.  But that's my opinion.

OMG lol SUV.  Yeah that is zero care feature for me.  I have GSX (and I don't even use that).

It's been a while since PMDG said they would simulate the 737 BBJ.  Don't exactly know why are they releasing it now, but it could be, like you said, a sale while they wait for the MFS SDK to be at the level they need to proceed with their MFS fleet.  Like other PMDG products, they simulate what Doug Demuro would call "quirks and features" of the respective aircraft.  For the BBJ, I'm sure there are some besides the extended range.  There could be some fuel management, W&B, or even instruments that are different to the non-BBJ 737.  These things may appeal more to the purist than you.  Some folks belong to VAs that offer BBJ flights, which could be another reason to buy it.  It makes sense to pass on it if you're not into any of the things that would make you want to fly a 737 BBJ simulation.

I like it. BBJ with aux tanks has 12hr+ ranges.

Yep, they did fuel, wt&bal plus some instruments.

The issue I have with them is that at least for the last 2 years they claim to fix the LNAV/VNAV and autopilots while they still develop and sale airplanes with big "quirks" that actually affect the whole airplane operation.

Good for them, people don't care and don't know.

But the Engine doen't upgrade, BBJs come with 26k and 27B1 to B3 IRL, but PMDG's BBJ1 only came with 24K while could bump to 26, BBJ2 only26k Bump to 27k(but not 27B1 or 27B3), also while there is 26or27 bump to seleect in FMC, you can't calculate their performance in PMDG's EFB. that makes you fly from some remote airpoort much harder.

Also I have noticed it seems across the whole NGXu line, SFP performance is not simulated, since SFP should come starndard on BBJs that's another point...

From what I can tell from your post that is BBJ is pretty much reskinned package from the current expansions.  It is pretty much same thing that there is.  No idea what SFP is but looks like SFP isn't in the package so we are now missing feature for BBJ.

I don't recall of the top of head, but I thought I saw SFP as an option in the FMS.

But the related performence differences are not simulated.

I see what your saying.  Interesting they would include that as an option in the FMS but not simulate the performance.  I hope it's a future update.  I know they were working on (and delayed) the BBJ for sometime so it's interesting how it isn't a fully complete package.
