November 10, 20205 yr Hello, We all know the days of having complete control over the scenery.cfg file ended with FSX. With some sceneries entered with a different method they are greyed out in the scenery library and can't be moved. Even OrbX Central doesn't seem to do what it is told. Just wondering if there are any rules regarding scenery installation into P3D v4.5. Are there rules regarding how many drives can be used? Are there any rules regarding what can be installed onto the same drive as P3D or the same drive as Windows? My scenery order is out of control and I thought I knew what I was doing!!!! Regards, Steve.
November 10, 20205 yr Steve, to have total control about the scenery database i warmly suggest to use Lorby´s Add-on Organizer which can be found here https://www.lorby-si.com/downloads.html This tool is a must have if you want to know whats going on with all the sceneries and also other add-ons. To answer your questions, there's no limit on how many drives can be used and no rules regarding which drive(s) you choose. The important thing to try is to attempt to have all of your add-ons linked by .xml method and keep scenery and effects files away from the main P3D folder structure (wherever possible). Unfortunately, old habits die hard and many developers' products install inside these folders (making updates/re-installations) more complicated. As suggested by others, take a look at Lorby-SI Addon Organizer.https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/795-lorby-si-freeware/ It's a very powerful freeware tool that can (among other things) help you manage your scenery add-ons, their effects, scripts, objects, textures, elevation files, etc. Keeping on top of P3D management would be a lot more cumbersome without it - I highly recommend it. November 11, 20205 yr Just to add, one advantage with Lorby-SI Addon Organizer is that you can make backups of your scenery library. I typically do this before I install some major sceneries or updates. While Orbx have made improvements to their scenery ordering, its can still on occasions, mess with your scenery order based on latest scenery installations you perform. November 11, 20205 yr The only time I worry about scenery is when something doesn't work properly, the usual solution being to move the offending scenery to the top of the list, or at least higher. Otherwise I have never found it necessary to mess with scenery files, wherever they are located. Lorby is undoubtedly good but far too complicated unless you take time to read the manual. (Whaaat? Read the manual, that's a new one.)😄 Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D.
