EA: is it worth using?

Featured Replies

EA off with ASP3D is the only way I think you can get accurate wx.

I want to use it, but its just not good enough for serious immersion, so I have switched off now as frustrated with it

It depends on what you want.

I do not use a VC. Without clouds or reduced visibility it is very nice. Really realistic lighting. Other scenarios not so much....

+1 I am with you on that. V5.1 HF seems to run great. I am more and more going with the old KISS method (Keep it simple stupid) Yesterday I even took that silly ORBX Florida TE off my machine. It makes all of Florida including the roads look like a big sand pile with flat horrible buildings. We sim nerds are our own worst enemy I think!! LOL

I can see the appeal of EA in like a military training scenario. You don't really need varying localized weather for most of that - one cloud setting for the theater is fine. But for civil simulation where users are looking to replicate the challenge of flying from point A to point B, observable localized weather is pretty important.

Anyway, we have non-EA, and that still looks pretty good, plus 5.1 performance is outstanding.

Do you use ASP3D at he moment you saw this? If yes, they are aware of this. This is not an issue (defect) but has a lot to do with truesky parameters set by default (LM) or set by 3th party (like FSGRW or ASP3D....).

Default seems, at least to me, actually looking better for the moment compared to ASP3D. FSGRW does also look ok. HiFi is working on this. They need to update their own volumetricclouds.cfg data(parameter) which can be used related to your settings within the ASP3D options.

But I think it´s common sense that this waffle thing, pixelated clouds, colors of dawn/dusk, position and flat cloud layer high on horizon for clouds, shading/orange cloud colors, do need a bit more work visually spoken. Also the waffle, or Grid pattern I called it, should be worked on as far as possible.

I personally don´t really care if LM is solving this by "standard out of the box" or a 3th party becomes the possibility to solve this by "configuration" of some existing/new cfg. data/parameters which will be usable to enhance the overall look.

I did open diverse topics on this at LM support. And I would like you to think about posting over there too. All these topics are called/tagged with EA/EA Mode and some words regarding the "visual issues".

Here is the one regarding the flat cloud layer with to much offset clouds at horizon incl. pictures
