November 26, 20205 yr Just updated MSFS and I see they added Atlanta Jackson Airport amongst other things. Took a flight at night from KATL to Dekalb-Peachtree Airport in the Diamond Eclipse. I used to rent those planes before my old flight base at Schaumburg went belly up. Holy Smoke! I cannot believe how insane night flight is in MSFS! I had tried flying the Eclipse previously and gave up because I could not control it at all. Now it works great, not sure what they changed, but I am not complaining. Night flight is spectacular in MSFS. Cheers, Pete Pete Solov - Lake in the Hills 3CK and Schaumburg Regional 06CProud AOPA Member - PPL 2001Real World Piper Cherokee Pilot
November 26, 20205 yr It looks good but is not necessarily realistic. Flying at night in Australia in real life you get little pockets of lights where the towns are but even with the new patch MSFS has a spiderweb of street light lit roads crossing the content. My hunch is they had a difficult choice between realistic lights for locals flying night VFR or pretty lights that look nice for virtual airline captains taking screenshots while on autopilot at FL 250 in an Airbus and opted for the second 😄
November 26, 20205 yr Great idea, Glenn. They should implement an option in the main menu which would determine the way World is rendered. And then there could be sub-menus for fine-tuning.
November 26, 20205 yr Eclipse available for MSFS? I had tried flying the Eclipse previously and gave up because I could not control it at all.??? Chris Chiozza

I was referring to the Diamond DA20, formerly the Katana but now called the Eclipse (the newer version). I assume you are referring to the jet? November 26, 20205 yr The night lighting really is fantastic overall, though I agree the lights on rural highways in between settlements could be tuned down or in a lot of cases eliminated. Most of these are never lit in real life. Large, spread out cities like Atlanta do look particularly spectacular. November 26, 20205 yr Lights are still way too overly bright and also unoptimized for anything above 1920x1080. When playing anything above that, the lights are noticeably blurrier the higher resolution you go. The lights need to be dynamically sized and not fixed. November 26, 20205 yr After the last patch....you should not be able to count the street light bulbs individually from 30 miles away. My quick photoshop mod of what they need to do to fix it,...(I didn't touch the near lights....just faded out the ones in the distance) Also...they need to tone down the taxiway lights and runway strobes. You should not be able to see blue taxi lights at all from 15 miles away from the airport....much less count every freakin bulb! Night lighting is nice...the performance is great...they just need to give US control via sliders on how we want it to look.
