Colors look very convincing. But at least in my part of Germany Trees are way to little with the winter mod. More like bushes.

Thanks for the winter trees. I tested them in Germany and for my taste the color could be shifted a bit from reddish to more grey-brown: as the leaves are supposed to be missing, deciduous forests get their appearance from the color of the bark..

Perhaps Asobo might even acknowledge your effort... one day?

Kind regards, Michael

Hopefully they will.

Asobo/Microsoft should be extremely grateful for this guy and all the other folks who have dedicated their time, talent, and resources to improve MSFS without asking for any compensation.

I haven't made the switch to MSFS yet, only used it for a month, but if the pace of improvements by third-party developers stays at the level it has been since release, then I am optimistic that soon the new sim will be at a level of development that satisfies me.

If I just had to wait for the MSFS developers to get around to fixing many significant flaws and add important features(like seasons), then I'd be waiting for a very long time, perhaps years.

Kudos to the freeware developers!

The thing is Asobo doesn't want to do seasonal environment changes half-done. They've said that they want to find a way to change the colours of the satellite imagery as well so it isn't green in the fall/winter.

Which makes me even wonder more, why we did not get this right away, considering the fact that snow is possible. Isnt snow the most extreme ground texture modification? If snow is possible, some partially transparent brownish layer to match autumn or winter grounds should be not much of an hassle, no?

Snow is just a shader layered on top of the ground, I don't think it modifies the texture in any way.

Doing what you suggest with a brown layer would just look unnatural.

I am aware, but again, why not using a shader to change the look instead of plain white to some brownish winter ground? Basically, the winter textures of other sims are not much more than colour corrected summer textures...

Yes that would probably work, but not sure if they would do that.

What's interesting is that Asobo did start on seasons. I see files for season in sim folder. There are also texture bitmaps of different season but they are not in use. I removed them manually to see if there is any effect in te sim but there wasn't. The files are just sitting there. My guess is they just left them without finishing them.

They said they want to do it right, so clearly it isn't as easy as what you're saying.

Maybe they're left over from FSX?

No they are new.

The main obstacle may be the photogrammetry regions and the transition to them.
