December 8, 20205 yr When Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit in 1953 I set a goal for my life. Reach the summit of Mount Everest. And now, 67 years later, that goal still burns deep inside. But this news is distressing indeed. I'm not sure, at my age, that I can make the extra two feet. I'm sure you could manage it if you took some extra "O". Couple of extra tanks should do.
December 8, 20205 yr Actually I was thinking more of a large bottle of a good single malt. Then I wouldn't care if I made it or not. That said, you may be right. I "climbed" Mt. Etna a couple of years ago (it's actually just a high-altitude up-hill walk) and I found myself saying "Please Lord, just let me do one more step" as I gasped for air. December 8, 20205 yr Thinking about it more carefully... I'm thinking maybe you should abandon the notion. There are no frozen corpses on Mt.Etna. there are on Everest. Let's not add to the corpsicles.

Read Into Thin Air and it will help you realize there is no place for people on Everest. If you want a challenge try "Everesting", this is where you ride your bicycle up the same hill over and over until you reach a total of 8848 meters of elevation climbed. Usually takes about 16 to 24 hours to complete. Mark CYYZ

Back in the 80s when I was in my early 30s I had a holiday on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. We took the cable car up to near the top but the last 500ft or so had to be on foot. Despite being pretty fit I had to stop several times on the zig-zag path before reaching the summit at 12,198ft. There was so little oxygen. Given I’m 6ft 5in that made the top of my head the highest point in the whole of the North Atlantic. 😃 The air was very thin but the views over the whole of the island and others were tremendous. These days they won’t let you walk to the summit unless you have a doctor’s note saying you won’t collapse! 🙄 Ray (Cheshire, England). It was the most difficult part of the Nepal-side climb. It tumbled down Mount Everest for days and stopped rolling in northern India.

Terrible tragedy at (formerly) Los Rodeos. The closest I got to them was by downloading a very good freeware scenery package from Canarysim for FS2004 called Project Canarias 2006. It`s tricky to install in with WIN10. I wish I could figure it out and reinstall it. I`ve been to Mexico City; where the altitude + the pollution do have a noticeable effect. Although they`re accustommed to it`s altitude the pollution must be harmfull in the middle to long term on it`s residents.
December 9, 20205 yr The thing about elevation and oxygen supply is that it's so often an "age thing". Back in the day (1967) I would routinely take the hike up to the summit of Mt. Hoffman (Yosemite Nat'l Park ) and hardly break a sweat or breathe hard. That was an elevation of 10,845 feet. Fast forward to my "trip up Mt. Etna" in 2016. The elevation is essentially the same...Mt. Etna is 10,991 feet. As I prayed for just one more step on Mt. Etna I thought about the old days while gasping for breath. Too many cigars? Too much booze? The extra 20 pounds? Should I have married Patti Anne? Anyway I made it up both mountains and my climbing days are over. In fact, the flight from London was diverted to Las Palmas because of low visibility. After an hour in the terminal we re-boarded and eventually arrived close to midnight. Perched on a plateau it’s not ideally placed and the airport in the south opened a few years later. Awful tragedy and remains the largest loss of life - 583. I’ve had the MK Studios Tenerife which is pretty good. https://secure.simmarket.com/mk-studios-tenerife-vol.1-v2.phtml Ray (Cheshire, England).
